Assassin Snails...

I have 2 assassin snails, they both have frequently slithered past some of my pest snails, but yet have not acted, they have even bee climbed on by one of the brave little pests, but nothing.

have i bought passive assassins?

Yes they should. Maybe they are just getting used to your tank and feel insecure. It's like when you buy a new fish and it hides for a couple of days and or doesn't eat

Nah they should maby they are full how many pest snails can you see?

Common myth that they nuke the tank, they prob eat 1-3 snails a week, which is why i sound like a broken record adding things to the tank will not get rid of pest snails. If you have a few then assassins are great to keep them in line

Assassins will only eat snails that are big enough for them to get their, erm, little elephant trunks inside to slurp out all that yummy snail deliciousness. So the little snails have to grow up a bit first.

They won't eat every snail they come across, they'd burst. Think of them as purely population control. My three did an excellent job on both my tanks, they trick is to feed very lightly because they will eat other scraps they come across too. Keep em hungry and they'll start to do their thing. It's unrealistic to expect them to eradicate a population that breeds faster then they eat.

Mine have all gone except for one or 2. I pulled out all my plants rinsed them down. Cleaned the filter in tabk water Cleaned sand and glass. Cut right back on feeding for a while. Have about 1 or 2 that grt crushed whenever i see them . Better than the million i used to have. Still gona get some assasins thou.

If they're not hungry, it doesn't matter how juicy the pest snail is, the assassin won't eat it. Unlike me and Cadbury's......

Since adding the Assasins to my 6 Tanks, I very rarely see MTS anymore, and ive noticed my collection of Assasins have got a lot larger!, added 3 or 4 to each tank, and there is probably around 10 in each, about 30 odd in my 160ltr!

I started with 3 around 18 months ago. I just swapped 40ish of them for a bag of black sand (leaving myself with 3 again). They do breed, but the young take a long while to mature.
