Picked up some of these at one of my Lfs today
Do they have a common name, also would they interbreed with my C125's?
I have them separate at the moment, but if they won't interbreed I'd like to put them together.
I can't get a pic yet as they're hiding most of the time & when they come out they're too quick

Hi Cazgar,

Very nice find! Aspidoras rarely turn up around my way. I hope they do well for you.

Since they are new, if they are in a quarantine tank, it would probably be best to keep them apart for as long as you can, preferably for at least 3 weeks. This is just to be on the safe side. Of course, you then run the risk of liking to see them in a single species tank and having to buy another quarantine tank for the next batch of fish you buy. This has happened to me many times. :)

As for their interbreeding, my thoughts are that if you are in doubt about the parentage of any eggs, you can always destroy them. Then separate the fish and see what happens.

My quarantine tanks seem to always end up as single species tanks which is why I now have 5 tanks & counting!
Luckily my Lfs makes odd size tanks to order
The aspidoras came from a local breeder & were in a tank of their own, so hopefully should be disease free though I would like to put them in with my 125's if the won't interbreed

Very nice find indeed!

I'd not assume that they are safe since even healthy fish can be easily infected in a lfs. A quarantine still a must.

C118's are not so easy to breed. My group produces very few eggs, and so far, no fertile. Hopefully your group does better!
C125's, otoh, seem to be identical to A.spilosus, and as such breed quite readily.

lol. I simply accepted that this is the way to get new fish. Qtanks are permanent tanks for the most part.

I hope they will eventually breed, where I got them from, they were brought in by a local breeder & there must've been around 30+of them
My 125's have bred quite easily, again, they came from a local breeder.
They are in a quarantine tank for now just to be safe, but it's not big enough to be a permanent home
