I'm looking for something, other than plants, where my Platy fry can hide out. I know the fry like to hide out in floating plants. Does anyone have any recommendation?
any cave type ornaments with lots of little hidey holes would work, likewise wood/stones placed together to make lots of little hiding paces can work well
Do all holes need to be small enough that none of the adults can get into the ornaments or is it just the crevices that will suffice? Will the fry come up for food or should I get something that sinks for them?
hi,
fry like very small holes they feel safe in, and no adult can get to them.
if you are leaving the fry in the main tank they will find there own food they will eat algae aswell.
when they feel safe enough and brave and are being ignored by the adults they will come out that little bit further at feeding time until they can feed at the very top like all the others.
i have a badger skull in my tank. the hole in the back is too small for adults to get in. mind you they're probably hard to get hold of, as i found mine, and not to everyones taste. Could probably find something similar on ebay
I have platys in my tank, and I bought baby hide out spawning grass, and it works great, I was actually cleaning the tank tonight, moved the spawning grass and BABIES!!I didnt even know they were there, cept one which was giving to me a few weeks ago , and is still doing well and is about this big ---spawning grass
