is there an arrowana section in here or does anybody know of an arrowana specialist forum??:?? thanks guys!

Ther a a fair few people on here that know alot about arrowanas..........what did you want to know exactly?

how big do they get, how long do they live? what do they eat? tank size? tank conditions? ligthing. thanks....

:D As modernhamlet said......oddballs is where you will find lots of info about arrowanas.CFC is the best advisor to my knowledge.....that said,I know a fair bit myself. All arrowanas grow big. Alot of specs depend, though ,on what type or arrowana you are talking about. The most commonly seen arrowana round where I live is the silver arrowana. This one can get to 2 foot and is predatory(as are all) Others can be smaller at adult size.....but I would say most tank specs would be the same.......no less than 6 'x2' x 2'.
It would also help if you added your location!! :)

A two foot silver arowana is a baby, even in captivity a well cared for silver arowana should easily reach 30 to 36 inches in ten years. The smallest captive adult size for any species or arowana is 24", my jardini is getting on for 18 inches and is still less than 2 years old!! Arowana's eat a lot and grow FAST, unless you already have a 6x2x2 tank and can upgrade within 2 years to at least a tank with a wider front to back measurement then arowana's are not for you.

Yeah arowanas can get to 3 ft and should be kept in a tank of 300 gallons or more. They are said to live for a 100 years. It is also said that they have mystical powers. they should not be fed live food. amazing where i work we have one that is almost a foot long that eats arrowana sticks!

Forgive my ignorance, but why shouldn't they be fed live foods? I think that's the first time I've ever heard of a fish that specifically shouldn't be fed live foods.

I presume that Final Dynazty means that they shouldnt be fed live fish, not shouldnt be fed any live foods since the best foods for arowana's are live crickets, locusts, mealworms and stick insects. Many arowana keepers believe that feeding them live fish makes them more aggressive and so more likely to harm tankmates.

Well, I have a Arrowana myself, hes pretty small though, like 8 inches, and very nice, and healty, but for a forum about them would probably be.

Arofanatics

Try that, I have more but, I forgot them :dunno:

Thats what i meant. LIve fish. They are riddled with disease and just arent healthy. It does increase their aggression. we feed our Arowanna Cichlid pellets and they seems to do just fine.

I saw a few asian green arrowanas at the pet store...they look so nice, they were going for 1,500.00 each. YEOW!
