Hi all,

I have read loads of different post on arowana's and (I have probably just missed it) I have never seen a post that tells you the diet of an arowana. I understand that it may varie from species to species, but in general what diet do arowana's need to to eat to be healthy?

My Red Tailed Golds eat

mealworms ( both giant and normal ) crickets, locusts, prawns and mussel

Steve

what arowna do you have ringham? k.o.d can i see some pics of your red tails?im trying to decide which arowna to keep in my new tank

At the moment the arowana that was sold to me was sold as a "Pearl Arowana", i think that means jardini. I will post pics later. It is really active and I am aware that they grow to big for my 100 UK gal tank but at the moment it is about 3" long and I have a friend that wil take it off of me when it grows too big.

btw k.o.d I LOVE rtg aro's can u pot any pics?

i looked into keeping a jardini but they are just to aggressive.you may have to get rid of it before it outgrows your tank if it starts killing your fish :(

Ok :( that will be disapointing as it seems really good at the moment but I will do what must be done. Also it was sold as a pearl arowana so i'm not 100% sure it is actually a jardini (that is just what I thought).

urgh, any spec of research would of told you that Pearl and Jardini arownana is the common name for Scleropages Jardini, which is the most agresive arowana going and by the time it hits 12" they normally want to kill anything in the tank.

It should take less than 4 months for it to reach 12".

Well i thought so but loads of different fish stores have different names and they didnt give the scientific name.

this is true it can be confusing but it is down to you to know what your buying.i know nothing about arownas and even i know that jardini, australian and pearl are the same

Sorry but you really should reserch what you buy before you buy it... Maybe your friend wont wanna take it seing it's agressive behaviour... Google is your friend - use it.

maybe returning him is the best thing to do.what does your friend intend on keeping it with when it has outgrown your tank or starts killing your fish?
