Around How Mutch Are These Catfish Worth$ ?

Picture015.jpg
I am afraid that the catfish in this picture isnt even a member of the Pimelodidae family let alone a member of the Pimelodus genus. What you have there is what appears to be a hybrid of Synodontis multipunctatus and another Synodontis species http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/speci...p?species_id=95 If you paid more than a few dollars for these fish and are still in contact with the breeder i would suggest returning them and getting your money back as they are essentially worthless.
grrrr, so i have a Synodontis multipunctatus?
How much do you guys pay for Bristlenose catfish (plec) or peppermint Plec's? in Australia they range from $25 - $40 each for a tiny baby one.Edit:sorry to get of the topic ... well it does relate to the topic I guess ... kinda.
yeah the price range is the same down here as it is with you :good:

No, they arent even true Synodontis multipunctatus, they are a hybrid created from breeding S.multipunctatus with another Synodontis species to create faster growing strains, unfortunately this seems to be a fairly common practise in Far East Asian and Eastern European fish farms and is ruining the trade in Synodontis species as no one can be sure that the fish they are buying are the true species unless they are wild caught specimins.

Haven't checked the prices of peppermint plecs, but you guys are seriously getting ripped off on BNs if you are paying $25-$40 for a baby......

okay, so if they were to be sold in a pet shop ect what would they name them?

my local fish shops sells small baby BNs for 20 though i can get big ones of a local breeder for 20...

If they were being sold in a pet shop it all depends on how much the shop keeper knows about catfish and if they are honest or not. Anyone who knows catfish will know at a glance that these are a hybrid species and would probably mark them up as Syndontis multipunctatus X sp? Someone less informed could mark them up as true multipuntatus or even just as Syndontis catfish without knowing the difference and a dishonest dealer would just try and sell them as true mulitpunctatus as they are worth more.

I havent bought one I did see one yesterday BN baby for $4.95 but some LFS have higher price tags on them........... but I want a peppermint and they seem to be round the $30-$40 mark for small ones on the coast thinking of going to Brissy to get the prices out there.
