Around How Mutch Are These Catfish Worth$ ?

These fish wont have been bred in captivity so the breeder must have imported them from somewhere, with the exception of some of the very large species like redtailed catfish and tiger shovelnoses that are bred in aquaculture farms with the use of hormone injections for food no species from the Pimelodidae family have been captive bred.

Is it possible to see a picture of these Pimelodus maculatus?

yeah, though these species lay there eggs and let mouthbreeders pick them up thinking that they are there own eggs and the cichlid looks after the egg just as she does with her own :good:

i managed to get 1 pic, il try and get some better ones soon

if that is the case you have a very common though legal pictus cat. i am far from convinced that the pic in your siggy and the ones you posted are the same though, as my pictus does not have any forward pointing barbels

any comments CFC?

I am afraid that the catfish in this picture isnt even a member of the Pimelodidae family let alone a member of the Pimelodus genus.

What you have there is what appears to be a hybrid of Synodontis multipunctatus and another Synodontis species http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/speci...p?species_id=95 If you paid more than a few dollars for these fish and are still in contact with the breeder i would suggest returning them and getting your money back as they are essentially worthless.

How much do you guys pay for Bristlenose catfish (plec) or peppermint Plec's? in Australia they range from $25 - $40 each for a tiny baby one.

Edit:

sorry to get of the topic ... well it does relate to the topic I guess ... kinda.

Here I pay $15 USD for a sub-adult bn pleco.

Australia, I would definately take the catfish back if at all possible. And please don't take this as an insult as it is not meant to be; before buying any more fish (especially those you want to breed, or pay large amounts for) research to verify what you are looking at is what species you think you are getting. Any reputable breeder would have no problem letting you take pictures and research before purchasing. Then again, any reputable breeder would know what they have. I'm sorry the person you bought them from mislead you.

Where are you buying them??
Should be about $6 for a baby BN (around 1 inch long).
$25 for a medium (like old enough to differentiate gender- say 3 inches long).

I payed about $30 for my bn..but that's because I bought him at about 9cm long and from a shop that's always ridiculously expensive. Was worth it though, he's lovely :p

I haven't bought any yet just seen the prices at the pet shops the BN's are cheeper than the peppermints but on the sunshine coast the BN's are round $20 mark how much are the peppermints in brissy? I may have to come down to brissy to get one if they are cheaper :)

(peppermints round $30-$40 on the sunshine coast - thats for small babbies)
