if youve recently added live plants then thats where the have come from, you can buy stuff in LFS to sort this, ive had to gut my tanks when this has happened

to get rid of them you could try putting a peice of lettuce or a few algae wafers into a cup ond leaving it in the the gravel in your tank over night, and in the morning just take it out and rinse it out. do this a few times. Worked for me.

Hi thnaks. yeh I added a amazon sword and java moss few weeks back but i throuraly checked them, must of missed the little critters.

What damage do they do BTW??

Modaz, what do you mean you had to gut 2 tanks

ha ha Ive been snail catching with my net and caught 10 so far :good: Will have to wait for the others to come out of hiding.

What kind of fish do you got and what is the size of the tank. You could maybe add a couple loaches they eat snails.

Good luck in snail catching :good: .. Years ago when I set up my first tropical tank I bought some live plants and put them into the tank..A few days later I spotted a snail, I ran and got my dad to investigate it..and asked him 100 questions  ..How did it get there?..Where did it come from?..How will I get it out?...He said just leave it its fine..
Fine!! A few weeks later there was about 50 of them.. I laugh about it now when I think back to it but I would hate to have them now.. They are pests once they multiply and take over your tank.. :shout:  x

Ive got the same problem here! For the second time. The last time i gutted my tank too. New gravel, plants everything. What kinda filter do you have, I changed my filter floss the other day and there was tons of snails eggs in it, will keep checking this regularly from now on!

I agree with prankster, if you have the space then get some Loaches. We had snail problems with two of our tanks so brought a group of three Botia Rostrata for each tank. No snail problems now and the loaches are fantastic to watch!
