As the Topic title says.... are they???.... some of them have an "eye" in the body section (see 2nd pic)which is characteristic of Endlers..... If they are not true Guppies,.... then we do not have thouroughbreds in South Africa.... the body patterns are common in all available stocks.

These are a couple of my "blondies".... which I secluded from the above stocks to try and start a strain.

im no expert but the second one really does look like a endler cross

I must also add.... I've never seen a Endler for sale in South Africa under that name...... So theoretically.... we do not have Endlers either.

I think that they all have probably, 1/3 endler genes in them. Nice that your starting a strain. Remember to use the best stock you get from your own fry to breed with those as you will eventually cross out the endler genes and be left with what look like rrea albinos. Which usually sell for about £40.00 for a male and 2 females!

good luck!

p.s do I see a diary/journal/blog starting :shifty: :p

Og No! John!!... I'm much too busy to start a journal of any sorts  I'm currently selling my male guppies at R5 (which is about 40 pennies in UK) to the pet shops or anyone interrested just to get rid of them.

How can you tell if they are 1/3 endler? To me they just look like normal fancy guppies, I am sure oldman47 will confirm this.

Nice fish though Ludwig! :good:

There are some guppy endler hybrids on this topic:

I see nothing that represents endlers in any of your guppies
The eye that you speak about is also common on the wild guppies also you would find it impossible to raise a endler cross with such a large delta tail I have been breeding endlers for the last 6 years I have tried thousands of crosses and to get any with half decent size tail takes many back crosses then the endler is breed out of them
To me you have only guppies

Nice looking guppies you have there Ludwig. I have seen that colored spot on lots of guppies, including wild type, since I got into the hobby in the 1950s. At that time nobody had ever heard of an endler so I don't think it indicates anything beyond the fact that the spot has not been bred out of your guppies. That spot is gone in many strains these days but looks perfectly natural to an old time guppy fan like me. I now keep pure endlers and do not see that spot as much as a real solid splash of black coloring along with intense reds and other colors on my endlers. I have not seen any particular color that indicates endler but they do have very intense coloring compared to a guppy of the same basic color pattern.

Another aspect that made me suspect, is that those that have the "spot" is generally smaller boddied than those without the spot, and also,.... in every 100 guppies... I have about 3 with either Lyretail or swordtail.... these are even smaller.....
