Are Malawis Fin Nippers?

u cant keep a cray fish with malawis though

I have at the moment though and theyre not giving any trouble. I recall being told at one point that I cant keep oscars with the cray etc, but its worked so why not? (im not being rude im genuinely interested to know)

Thanks :)

yes it may work at the moment but it wont last mate!!!

u have been told now by a couple of fishkeepers not to yet u stiill are adamant to keep it there.

total pointless in asking in the first place !!

I think some peoples attitude on here frankly SUCKS. I already mentioned I was not being rude and I was asking a GENUINE question. If you seem to think that offering advice to new people is too difficult without putting in comments like "totally pointless asking" then don't bother replying at all.

What a great way for a new person to seek advice from a place thats supposed to be here to help fish keeping community. Well thanks I won't be asking for help here again.

The main problems with the cray and malawis I see are that 1: mbuna (rock-dwelling malawis) are mainly bottom dwellers, they sleep on the bottom/in caves at night, which is when your cray will hunt. And 2: mbuna are highly aggressive, they are also smaller than oscars and can easily hunt down your cray when he moults.

Remember, there are no sure fire rules in fish-keeping, however, years of keeping them can give you general guidelines. And, one of the general guidelines is that crays don't work with bottom-dwelling fish. If you want to continue with it, that's your choice, however, I suggest having a back-up plan in case it doesn't work. :good:

the problem mate is ur asking questions then people are giveing u the same answers but yet u still are doing the oppisite besides what they are saying.

so it defeats the purpose of asking and is frankly a waste of time.

Surprised ur cray didn't get eaten by oscars. My friends cray got eaten by his oscars.

He may have one lucky cray or large oscars that couldn't get into the crays hiding spot or maybe they were just well fed lazy oscars????

Anyway, he's reallly lucky there hasn't been a problem yet....like I said, "disaster waiting to happen"

if you have a krey fish in there it most probly is that.. they are nasty things at the best of times and very terratorial.. but your malawis may also be the culprit. whilst they are younge they dont tend to be to bad but u can get the 1 or 2 that become terratorial.. obvisly they are canivouros aswell. but aslong as you give the plec plenty of hidding places you should be ok.. if anything try a synodontis multipuncatus (cucko catfish) they are from lake malawi also and can defend themselfs very well. :shifty:

also syno petricola are gd to use

synodontis like to be groups. Try 3 if you want some. Be sure to look up species before purchased as some get close to 12".
