Hi there, ive been looking at this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HYDOR-EXTERNAL-HEATER-ETH300-300w-16mm-/250956676520?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Fish&hash=item3a6e2efda8#ht_545wt_932

As a way to tidy up the look of the tank, Im finally using a tetratec ex1200 so I could use this. Any one use one, are they any good. Any ideas welcome. :good:

I have had two of those for more than a year now and they work fine. I purchased mine from Germany though. :good:
Check out ebay though there's a guy in Notts selling for £25.

I have one of those, brilliant bit of kit. Water heated much more evenly, fish can't burn themselves, no glass to crack in the tank. Plus less clutter to look at. Recommended.

Been running two of these for many years now. They work fine and I would recommend them without reservation.

just got one from that same seller very gd and works a treat :) using it on my 1200 also :) well get another soon P.S you can get the price down to £28 with Make an offer if this helps ;) me and another guy did haha if u get lower let us know :good:

This would be great for me.

Few questions though,

I have a eheim 2080, running for a 500+ litre tank. Currently there are 2 x 300w internal heaters. So would need 2 external ones. But these are connected on the return pipe to the tank.

So would it be ok to place 2 along the same pipe going into the tank??

I knw some people might say to have another filter for that size tank, at moment my stocking is low so when i plan on increasing stocking i will be getting a second filter. Not planning any time soon though.

I have two on a 750 lt but to be honest I think one would cope do to room temperature and over head lights.I would say get one and see how it copes.

I just got one and got it set up a few days ago. It heats the water to within 1 degree of where I set the thermostat, no danger to the fish, can't see it ... what else could you ask for??

And honestly, I wouldn't think you'd need more than one. You're basically heating the small amount of water that goes through the hose, not the whole tank of water as with an internal heater. I love this, and I'll be getting more for my other tanks.

I made an offer of £28 aqnd got one as well :good:. cant wait for it to arrive. Been wanting an external heater for ages.

IMO the best heater on the market.

Just be aware Fluval external owners that you will have to get rid of those ribbed hoses, as they won't connect properly.

So this will work on the tetratec ex1200 for sure?

One suggestion to offer all who use these. I was taught a ton about fishkeeping by a gent who spent 50+ years in the business and the hobby. One thing he told me early on was he hated hoses because they always had a way of disconnecting or springing leaks at connection points. The result is I have used hose clamps to secure all my Eheim and Hydor hose connections. It may mean a bit of extra works when doing the annual hose and heater cleaning, but it also means I will never had a hose connection problem cause a flood.
