they really only can jump out if the water is close to the top of the bowl, all of mine are in bowls that don't have lids (and if you do have a lid make sure there are airholes in it). And i've never had a problem with jumpers.
Though most of the threads you've seen about jumpers are females, and they carry a lot less finage and are usually housed in a low larger tank. So i'd recomend a lid for a female tank, because fish jump out of hte water when being chased sometimes.
