Aquiring a Female Betta

I went to several fish stores and none say that they sell them because "they normally die during spawning". I dont think that is really true because ive heard alot of success stories on this forum. Where could I get a female betta? Would someone like to sell me 2 or 3? I really want to spawn them and have lots of Betta Babys

And er no.... female bettas dont die during spawning they look like they're dead after each embrace but comes back to life after a few seconds

Can Bettas be shipped that far off?

but anyways, my lfs here has them, have you looked around a bit more? also depending on your male ie. say he's a crowntail, try to get a ct female to go with it. if you cross a ct and a vt female you'll just get combtails and weaken the "crown" of the fry.

walmart usually has them. theres no need to have them shipped to you unless you are purchsing very nice ones.
they can die during spawning if you dont know what you are doing so be sure to read up on it before you attempt. check the pinned topic at the top of the page.

I could do without betta lova's comments but thanks everyone ill look in a walmarts that has fish. There arent any around be so it would have to be a big trip. Cutecotton, i know your very reliable and smart about betta's but could you maybe send me 2 if I cant find any?

i wouldn't mind finding some nice ones for you if you do want them shipped. But you live in the states right? i dont' know how customs and shipping will be

in canada, none of hte walmart carries female bettas. They seem very hard to find because...quite frankly our walmart sucks crap You could try a more private/local fish store rather than the big chained ones, that's usually where i find the best fish believe it or not

By the way, I have a question about the female bettas. Can they be put in a tank together? I have a 2 gallon tank that I can put the females in and take the male out of and put him in a gallon tank im making at the moment. How many female Bettas can be put in 2 gallons?

i wouldn't suggest you putting 2 females in a 2g. If you really awnt to put a feamle in there i'd only put one.

Though they are NOT as aggressive as males, they are usually more aggressive than you think. If you have a spare 10g you can put maybe 4 in there (4 is the magical number to spread out aggression, keeping 2 together might give one the chacne to bully the other to death). I keep 4 in a 15g with other fishies, and they do okay.

If you do go for a female community tank, a 10g with 4 femals would be the best, with lots of hiding places and stuff of course If you only plan on getting two, i would just kepe them sepreate in 1G tanks like the males.
