I'm assuming that a lot of you will answer much and such the same but let's give it a go. What do you guys hate about the fish keeping hobby above all else list as many peeves as you like and why.

My biggest pet peeve has to be bright blue freaking gravel and crappy looking divers that spit out bubbles....

Just think of this as a Rage Ventilation Page.......yeah an R.V.P we'll call it.

So come on then what dya have?

At a big-box-pet-store to pick up another kind of wafer for my cories and an employee is answering questions by someone who obviously doesn't know much, if anything, about fishkeeping as he bought 3 rather large cichlids. He described his tank size by stretching his arms out a little (probably 3-feet ... but did not specify volume in gallons or liters) and I didn't really hear much of the rest but it was quite obvious that those fish were going to be in a less than ideal situation with his current knowledge level.

and that's a lot coming from THIS newbie...

People who buy fish "just because they look nice" to then find out they're not compatible in their tank OR they have the wrong set up.

^^ This; plus people who have one cory, one oto, one glowlight, one black widow, one neon, two danios, one rasbora... Oh, and people who say, "I'll re-home it when it outgrows the tank" NO; re-home the poor thing now before it gets stunted and dies an early death :grr:

Personally, I have nothing against brightly coloured gravel and bubbling divers; some people like them (especially if you have kids; they love that sort of thing!) and I don't think the fish care too much, though I wouldn't want any of my tanks looking like that. I do have a Tardis in my bedroom tank though

my personal fishkeeping peeve would have to be the lack of decent quality aquatic shops round my way .
oh and not having a 12 ft tank

I think you also need to add not having a mansion for the 12 ft tank and not having a fire engine to do the water changes!

+1!

although there are a couple of good shops by me, and P@H is alright - the problem is the price! The good shops are too expensive, and while I have a 20% off P@H card, I don't trust their stock too much!

+1 again! When I win the lottery! ;) :hey:

Actually scratch the 12ft tank, if I wont the lottery I would have a whole room. Like the giant tanks you have at sealife centres :) and I'd learn to scuba dive. :D

I think my pet peeves would be the price of everything 'aquatic' far too expensive in many places...and crappy LFS who keep their stock in dreadful conditions.

People who work in fish stores and have no clue what they are on about...or even worse, do know what should be done and mislead the customer to earn a few pounds.

And lastly, people who do not do their research. I mean, lets put it this way, if you're a photographer, you're not gonna waltz into a shop, splash your money on any old camera, and then see what the specs are like once you've paid and got it home. ... only to find out its exactly what you didn't want.
Information is so accessible these days, and although you can get bad advice, its not hard to find a decent forum..like this one.... :good:

We've all made a few mistakes, but the lack of common sense in some is quite remarkable.

Mine is when looking at fish tanks on ebay and see a small tank for sale fish with fish and you click on the item to see a load of big fish like Oscars crammed into the tank

one of my biggest peeves is dealing with people who don't care that a fish is too small for their tank. i had a friend of a friend who had a ~7-8 inch pleco in a 20g tank!!!!! i recently convinced them to give me the fish for my 55g, but now i have to find a new home for it. i'll hopefully find something soon, as he keeps up-rooting all my plants!

Fish store lackies who don't know how to catch fish properly and practically mash the poor fish against rocks, ornaments, the glass etc. Then have the nerve to say they only have a 3 day guarantee!

Fake aquarium plants. Yes, I know some fish eat real plants but I still hate, hate fake plants.

The "your tank isn't a true planted tank unless at least 75% of the substrate is covered, blah, blah, blah." Crazy talk IMO. I have a tonne of plants in my tanks and it's lush and green and a lot of the substrate is still showing. I have a "planted" tank thank you very much, lol.

When you ask a supposed "expert" a fish question and they say, "hmm..well...uhhh..yeah, you should probably be fine with that"

People who feed their big, manly, chest thumpin' fish, live baby mice! You are sick and disturbed if you find that entertaining. Really, you are.

2 things that really, really p*ss me off are:

1: those people who ask for advice then proceed to completely ignore the advice given and argue that their way is the best way......errr hello!! Why come asking for help and advice in the first place if your way is working for your fish??? :grr: :grr:

2: people who keep fish yet can`t be @rsed to provide their fish with a clean home. I hate hate hate seeing photos that show fish being kept in a dirty, filthy tank. :shout: :shout:

Ok, that`s my peeves......Well you did ask

+1 for this
+1 for the price of aquatic stuff and the lfs staff who couldn't care less and sell fish with the tank they're going in.

I also hate the people who think that the best thing to do with a fish you don't want is to flush it down the toilet.

Plus those farting diver bubblers! Each to their own, I know, but I really hate them.

People that won't take advice about big goldfish in tiny unfiltered plastic tubs.

I have to say it. The fact that I haven't got the 12 ft tank, mansion and fire engine too..

I hate it when people call Honey Gouramis Dwarf Gouramis........two different fish people! Silly one I know.

and I'm another one that hates any tank that doesn't look natural...bright gravel, divers, skulls - the lot.

The Cory/Neon/Rasbora thing too within reason.

Oh I only have 3 cories... 2 are skunk, the other is julii. Have been trying to find more to up their numbers. SIGH

Anywho... I also can't really stand it when people brag about having only one clown loach or 1 of any fish species that would do so much better with friends.

And yes also the "I'll rehome it later" thing bugs me to no end. I wonder how many of the people that say that actually do it.. or if the fish died before that is even a problem.
