Nerite snails lay eggs all over the place and it looks yuck. Mystery snails lay a sack of eggs above the waterline and its easy to remove.

I agree that would be unsightly ...and icky.
I was told that as long as you only keep one they will stop laying eggs as they're aware there's no chance for reproduction?! I'm not sure if that's correct or not but I can tell you that I've only ever had one and it never laid a single egg.
