In my 55 gallon, I have a few basic plant pots which I have partially buried into my sand to make caves (I boiled them for thirty minutes before adding them). One of them is a medium sized pot which I broke in half to sort of suit my needs. I have since decided I don't want that one in my tank, and I am donating it to my sister. She, however, wants to paint it to match her decor. Is there any safe paint we can use? Or a safe sealant of sorts? I'm assuming my canvas acrylic paint is not safe, nor would be my varnish.

I dont know about paint but ive seen a neat idea someone had which was using fish safe silocone ( basicly any silicone with out mildew resistence or bio resistence or just buy from your lfs) anyways so basicly cover the pot in sili cone and civer that with gravel it works well for pvc tube caves :p

Hmm. That might look pretty neat. It might be too bulky or bumpy looking for my sister though. It would be fun to do at any rate.

youl be lucky to find aquarium safe paint as the only paint used in aquariums are that of companys that use them for fake plants ect. i dont think theres much paint made to be safe to use in tanks, not much of a market for it. be sure to post on here if you do though :)

I didn't think there would be either. If I do find some, I'll let everyone know, but it's bound to be crazy expensive.

Hamerite is tank safe, once it's cured.

I looked into it, and I'm having a very difficult time finding any available where I live. Looks like its about thirty dollars a can though. :/

i heard long term hammerite breaks down and bubbles when in constant contact with water :/

Well it looks like Hammerite is both too expensive and too tough to get in my area, so we will most likely just put the pot in her tank as is.

i used krylon fusion:

flat black to paint my pvc spray bar

khaki on pvc T/Y/elbow pieces for fish to hide in

I second this I myself and a lot of reefers use krylon black spray paint but it will come off glass
