Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if the acid test is basically a pass/fail type test or if it only works if calcium is present? So basically, I want to know "if a rock passes the acid test (white vinegar), does that mean it will not change the water chemistry at all?" Thanks for any help!

Hiya,

Sorry to say the vinegar test will only tell you whether there is calcium present. Your best bet would be to set up two buckets of water, use one as a control bucket and put the rock(s) in the other. Leave them for 48 hours and then test the water for Ph, Gh, Kh etc in both buckets. If the results are the same then you should be fine :D

Hope that helps!

Take care,
Jo
