Does anyone use any Aquarium software on their PC?

I have had a look at quite a few different one's (some commercial, some freeware) and a lot of them are rubbish.

If anyone has some decent Aquarium software then please let me know.

The best one I have found so far is no longer being made or supported. It is freeware though!

Here's a screenshot of it in action.

I have uploaded the software to my personal webspace, so if anybody wants it you can download it by clicking this link.

Be warned though it is nearly 6 MB's in size so it may take a while downloading, depending on your connection.

Worth it though, it's not a bad little program.

This might sound a bit dim, but what is aquarium software/what does it do?

I've never liked any of the stuff either. Though things the the calculators are handy.

Might download it for a look ;)

3W,

Aquarium software comes in different forms, though they are all programs for your PC that are Aquarium related.

Some have a sort of 'encyclopedia' style layout and just give details of fish species, etc. Others let you keep a journal of your tanks, etc.

The one I have above has the following sections:

- A tank section where you can store all the details of as many tanks as you like. (Measurements, Volume, Equipment, etc)

- A journal section which lets you keep notes on water quality, etc. along with notes for each entry.

- A livestock section which is where you can keep details of all the fish you have. (Where purchased, Date purchased, Notes, etc.)

- A common diseases section which describes diseases and their cures.

- An Aquatic glossary which describes common aquatic terms.

- A tank calculator which calculates volumes, stocking levels, light requirements, etc.

- An Aqua-chart that can provide graph analysis of your water quality over a period of time (from your journal entries).

- A search facility and ability to backup and restore the data entered.

It's quite good actually! :)

I keep on getting "VB5DB.DLL could not be loaded". Anyone got any ideas? I've tried uninstalling and installing again.

Tatya,

The 'VB5DB.DLL' is a file that this program needs to run.

It will be looking for it in your system folder if it is not there you will get this message.

There is a copy of the 'VB5DB.DLL' file in the .zip file, look in the folder you have extracted the .zip file too you should see it.

You need to put a copy of this file in your system folder.

The system folder will be on your hard drive at either 'C:\Windows\Sytem\' or 'C:\Windows\System32\' depending on which version of Windows you have.

After putting a copy of the 'VB5DB.DLL' file in your system folder the program will work.

The 'VB5DB.DLL' file is part of the Microsoft Visual Basic Runtime Library that is required for programs written in the Visual Basic programming language.

If you have any problems understanding this, or if anyone else does, then please let me know and I will try to make it a bit clearer. :D

Sorry Feargal, I used to use various software as wallpaper and screensavers. i used to download boatloads from the various websites. Then one day I decided to look at my hard drives freespace and realised that the wallpaper and screensavers used up 40% of my freespace. I've only a 40 Gb HD and I need to keep used space to a minumum. Space is precious to me, and that is why I've also got a 250mb Iomega zip drive attached to my PC. Even communicating in this forum which I have set as the default web page, uses up space which is stored in the temp files. I do a clean up every week and it usually clears up about 26mb of space which I can reuse. The screensaver and wallpaper I have come from a site called Webshots. i can choose what I want and know my space isn't being invaded upon.

I agree about the screensavers and wallpapers.

I have the one's I am using and that's it. :)

...and I have two 80 GB hard drive's LOL

Ah that's the difference, you can afford to be free and easy with your space. Unfortunately poor lowly cousins like me can only manage 40 gigs. lol. and I got to be frugal with it.
The phrase: Nah,- nah,nah nahnah, comes to mind.

I think that could work the other way too m8!

Seeing as I have only a three foot tank and there's nothing in it! :(

Feargal,
I think this is a good idea, esp. for keeping track of notes and stuff.  Not that I'm a consistent note-taker, but at least it might be easier to find them.   :p
I looked around for some other free ones.  One looked good (had a reminder you could set for water changes 'n' such), but it was for reef, and I don't think I'd need the extra stuff that was marine-specific.
So, I'll prob. try this one out.  TIA

If you look in the Read Me.txt file withint he zip, it tells you where to get the .dll file.

Regards
