hi

just bought another tank, thought id try the mix and match route this time to try and save a few quid

found a rena cabinet which i like at 50% saving, problem is the tank ive bought is 122cm wide while the stand measures 121cm wide

tank is all glass kind so i will have a 5mm over hang at either side, will this be ok or will it stress the ends of the glass.

thanks

If your not sure, you can always cut a piece of wood the same size as the tank, fix this to the stand top then place tank on top of that, dont forget your polystyrene sheet under the tank.

Cheers Gordon

Your welcome, good luck with the new tank.

I would not try it without the wood top. Most tanks are not supported by the bottom. If you look closely you will notice that the plastic frame is thick enough to hold the glass bottom up off any flat stand. That strip of plastic around the bottom is what your tank really sits on. If you have a .5 cm overhang, that plastic frame that is expected to hold up the tank will be resting on air. That is not a situation that you will want.

I actually just did this exact thing. Just bought a thick piece of wood from the hardware store, cut it to fit the tank, varnished and attached it to the stand. Total cost was about $30.

my thoughts exactly

only do this if you've a stury piece of wood between tank and stand.

There you go, ignore me  , take the others advice - Im hopeless with these things :S , get the wood :good:

i have just seen some non slip sheets to be placed under the tank on e-bay from a seller called - trading places. Need any info I can get the reference number for you. That would give you added peace of mind. Maybe you could find out what the max weight is that the cabinet can take then compare it to the volume of water in the tank. The difference if any would be fractional so should be ok. Will the tank be around yound children or excitable animals? Best of luck, Kim

thans for the help every one.

turns out the Rena base i ordered is no longer in stock,so i have now orderd a Rio 240 cabinet.

stil only mesures 121 unfortunatly, but i will defo put the extra layer of wood on top.
