Aquarium Background

Hi there everyone,

I am currently in the process of getting everything together to set up a nano reef. I've decided I wish to paint the back of the tank in a matt black but what paint should I use?

I've been to several stores including B&Q to ask but none of them seem to stock any paint that they believe would work on glass as a background.

I am curious to know what paint other fellow marine aquarists are using as a background that will stick on glass and not be toxic to future marine livestock.

Some kind of latex paint would work, Krylon is one brand name.

most types of paints will work for you , but as said above latex paint will do a better job. You will also find it easy to remove if you ever want a change.

Thankz for replying people, the only thing is what stores in the UK sell latex paint? I asked at B&Q when i was there and they just replied they didnt stock it and i'd have to go to a specialist?!

Also i bought some matt black car spray in a can from Halfords and tried it on a piece of glass, it seems to stick with the only problem being i can peel it off with my fingernail without much effort so i dont think this would work??

What? That's like a grocery store saying they don't carry eggs... Latex based paint is the cheapest/safest form of common household paints. Maybe they just use different words there. Try asking for a "flat black enamel".

They did have matt black enamel paint but no 'latex'! The women I asked went through all her colleagues trying to ask them and non off them had a clue or had heard of latex paint!! The enamel paint was for metal surfaces so you beleive it would work on the back of the aquarium? I'll go out and get some in the morning!
