Hiya All,

My Aquarium Background was installed into the inside of the aquarium using aquarium sealant. The coated paper was meant to be perfect for inside!

But anyway its ruined, so I have had to take it out. This has obviously left the sealant stuck to the inside of the glass, at the moment I am on day 97 of my fishless cycle! :)

I really dont want to have to take all the water and gravel out to remove the sealant and then put a new background on.

So, is there any easy way of removing the silicone with the water in? and will putting a background on the outside of the glass look as good?

Cheers for the help!

The only way your going to get that silicone off is to use a razorblade and scrape it off real carefully. Putting a background on the outside will only look as good if you do it the hard way. Cover the back of the tank with a generous amount of petroleum jelly and use a paint scrapper to adhere the back to the tank. If you do this right, it will look just like it did when it was inside.

Its what "afishdude" said.... razor blade :good: (or you may be able to lift an edge with a finger nail ?)

I would NEVER place a background inside the tank (textures ones DO go inside obviously !) I prefer to paint mine - again on the outside.

Cheers Guys, I ended up using a Glass Scraper, basically a stanley knife blade in a plastic housing!

It was fantastic! Came off in seconds and left no scratches or marks! Well Impressed!

Thanks

as rooster said i would never put a background inside the tank unless its a texture one.

i normally used vinyl in the colour you want as it sticks on the back it means it wont come loose and no water will get done the back. on my marine tank im using a thin sheet of perspex the same colour as a few things inside the tank so it blends in
