hello everyone,
i have just set up a second-hand aqua one aquis 1050 and it is making a loud 'whirring' noise, almost like a cd reader on a computer. I have rocked it from side to side periodally for the last 8 hours and it is still unbearably noisy (tank is in my bedroom :S ) does anyone know how to get the noise to stop? Would buying a new impellor for the filter fix the problem? Thanks

mine started making some odd noises couple weeks back, i took it apart, cleaned it all with a toothbrush, rinsed the media in tank water and ran the pipes thru with hot water. noises gone. is yours noisy from when you got it? maybe a replacement will do the trick if so.

it could be air trapped in the system. first turn bot the taps to the closed position, emptying the filter of water completely, then take the out pipe out of the water and drain the water from it into a bucket. then re-attach the tubes to the filter and turn them to open position keeping the out pipe out of the water. the filter will fill up and all the air will be pushed out. then turn it on.

you will lose about 10 ltrs of water from the tank into the filter so just top it back up with new water.

is this the filter you got from me? try removing the air like i said above and i am 99% sure it will fix it as it was working like normal whe i had it.

when i put the new one on my tank (straight swap for the 1050) it was ok then after a few days started making a noise like you said, so i cleared the air and it was fine. then about a week later it started spitting out bubbles every 5 mins and continued to do so until i cleared the air again. it would appear that when i cleaned it i wasnt getting the air out propperly.

when i first put my internal filter in i took it back to the shop after about 3 hours as it was making a noise and was told to leave it for a few days, i did and it stopped, all it was was trapped air escaping and making the impellor rattle.

its important to follow the same air removal procedure when you clean the filter out to make sure there is no air lock in the system.

let me know how you get on

Thanks for the suggestion mate, i tried emptying the air like you said and it seems to have worked :D i will add some photos of it when it is all up and running so you can have a look. Thanks!

thats good news.

just make sure you follow the same procedure every time you clean the filter out.
