Apple Ipod Touch

For me it's because iTunes was so much more user friendly than Windows Media Player. I also liked it better than any of the other music buying websites.

I hated, Napster.

Then now I use Mac's and as far as I know, nothing else works with them.

I know my sony walkman phone just acts as a mass storage device when connected to my MacBook Pro and the phone picks up all the music files (including WMA) and then allows you to create playlists.

Sadly it doesn't keep a lot of the info on how I rate it, but I don't really need to be told I like a song when listening.

I must look into iTunes more. I miss having all my music (and other multimedia files) stored on a file server which Amarok then picked up from all the other computers (when I had a purely ubuntu home network) and just making one change would affect all 3 used computers.

Anyone have any how-tos on setting up iTunes to run from a central deposit rather than a local directory?

umm not tried it but in theory it would be just a case of sharing the folders with the music/data in and setting iTunes on all three pc's to use the same folders.

Edit: looking in the options for iTunes there is a tab for sharing the itunes library.

I love Apple.
I've had MP3 players; but nothing can live up to the good iPod! I have a pink Nano (I got it last yr for Christmas); I use it a LOT & have no problems with it! :D
All my MP3 players used to break; & were just not nearly as good quality.
Although, I had an iClick (MP3 player) & that thing was VERY cool! :D
Ahh I hope I get the iPod Touch; it looks SUPER cool! What will they think of next, LOL! :)
I love how they're always coming up with new, cool things!
I think it's cool if you get it; hopefully I will too! LOL.

They look cool, but the good ol MP3 is better for me, i couldnt watch a movie on that screen (size) also 16GB WHF thats hardly anything

One thing that annoys me is how people tend to refer to mp3 players and iPods separately, as if they are different things.

It's like saying 'I don't like cars, I drive a Ferrari'.

Also when people compare iPods to 'mp3 players' saying how iPods are superior to 'mp3 players' (naturally without giving any real reasons).
This is just silly, it's like saying you used to have an old skoda and you never liked it, now you have the aforementioned Ferrari you think all the cars from other manufacturers are rubbish.

I bought an iPod because I was fed up with using sonic stage for my current mp3 player, because so many people have them there will be plenty of hacks out there, because I can use the nike+ gear with it and because overall it's a very nice looking/feeling device that is a joy to use.

I freely admit that technology and value for money wise the competition out there has already announced/released superior products. I mean look at the Sandisk sansa view, the new zunes, that new cowon iAudio and the new sony mp3 players. If it want for the nike+ stuff not working with these players, I'd surely have one of them (apart from the sonys, I've given up with their software).

I don't think it's going to be too long until people come to their senses and stop buying iPods without looking around first.

Are you asking if you can set it up so you can access your library from another computer?

SLC
Not really as the sharing requires my library to be on for someone else to look at, more of an ad-hoc result instead of infrastructure.

I am asking how I set it up so that the iTunes rips the CDs and puts it on the shred portion of my Ubuntu server which is accessible by everything on my home network and that then the iTunes pulls any songs from there and saves me having to update and store music information on all 4 computers I use at home depending on task.

I think I may have found it now, but will have to play with it more when I have some time.

Yeah that's a little over my head, but glad you may have figured it out!
