Apple Eggs :)

Just thought I'd bump this thread....

We drew a blank with that batch of eggs... :(

But about a week ago we had some more turn up... :)

and i've just spotted about 10 TINY little baby apple snails :kana:

I cant get any piccys yet as they are all at the back of the tank...

they are just little yellow dots :) :)

update on the little ones...

there are now about 50 tiny yellow perfectly formed apple snails scattered about the 110l tank :D

this is a pretty good piccy to give some idea of size... the substrate is playsand!

I currently have 5 healthy looking clutches in my small tank. It was seven but one fell into the water after being laid (just saw them in the morning scattered around the gravel with a string of three or four hanging by a thread from the hood), the other I took and put in a small tank above the water but nothing happened as they dried out.

I am hoping that some of my current clutches amount to something. My water is 79f and the eggs look moist and are pink. The oldest is two weeks old. Anyway to tell if they are fertilised or unfertilised? Sure they must be as the snails are at it 24/7. see my sig I have a few snails.

Yep, sure have. 2 batches have hatched, 1 fell off the glass so that batch wont do anything the remaining two are looking healthy still. Oh yer and now there are four more and as I type another is depositing eggs B) I have very sexually active snails :D

How are yours doing? Its difficult to count them, but with just a quick look I counted 70. I will Keep some to maturity, but my Puffers will shortly be wearing down thier beeks on some

the first hatched are just over a week old and are about 3-4 time the size they were!

The plec cucumber is totally gone skin and all! The plecs get what they want then the little apples clean up the rest.

the last clutch of eggs it hatching at the moment (its in a dryier cooler part of the hood) but we must have nearly 100 little snails :D

I'll be getting rid of them when they are reasonably small to a lfs - I can guarentee that they are plant safe so that will help them sell them on ;)

They only had two left so got both, but not sure if they will breed, I will keep an eye out for some more. Never know I may have been lucky enough to have got a breeding pair.

Sonds like yours on coming on well.

ah ha... I have one of those too :)

its called a 'zebra' in the 110l tank :)

nearly got 2 more today but one of them in the lfs was just an empty shell.

Yer, these were labled Zebra snails too, but that goes for the stripey apple snails too and these are not apple snails. They also lay eggs under the surface unlike the others so should be interesting, although the apples will probably eat any eggs they come accross under the surface.

I would not sell mine as they are mainly for puffer food, but they are pretty common at most LFS. Also I am no expert with oscars, but all my cichlids enjoy baby snails, so you would be better off with older ones at least a centimeter accross (and possibly more as your oscar grows, and grows, and grows, and grows............. :D ).

I would also say that if you have any plants then only go for the pomacea bridgisi and the yellow ones at that as I have some black ones that love plant munchin, but the yellows only eat algea off the glass.

have a look round http://www.applesnail.net it is full of facts

Ours are WAY too small to sell at the moment - but will sell them when they are big enough.

The best thing is that I can tell you that ours are plant safe as i've got their parents in a tank with plants. (better than snail roulette at the LFS!)

I'll let you know when they are bigger if your still looking.

But in the mean time - I bought mine from Fishyfeet on the forum. 5 of them cost me £8 and the service was great.
