Appalling...

I myself have always been attracted to the parrot fish,I guess because alot of people do think they are so ugly. I feel bad because they had no choice to be anything but what they are,and it's pretty much a no win situation. If you buy them, you're "promoting" that it's okay to do these things, and yet on the other hand, they are allready here...Will they stop producing them? Probably not... I will be getting a bigger fish tank real soon, and I am still tempted to save a couple of these poor fish, and yet I still hesitate........... :(

a little rude are we?
am i not aloud to make a mistake?
that is why i said IMO (in my opinion)
if i was wrong about some of my facts, this does not mean that my "opinion is faulty"
i would never think of them as an "abomination"
i very much agree with cheese specialist ;) in everything that she has said
IMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
`except for the eating of cows :*)
sorry girly

i think that a couple of you are out of line with how you have said things!
for starters,
"WRONG!"
could have been "actually...."
you don't have to be sensored but PLEASE!
for darn sake be CIVIL!
and i don't much care for how two "unnamed" people have talked to poor cheese specialist! :/

i am not being mean i am just hoping that people open their eyes and read BEFORE they submit
say whatever your little heart desires but keep in mind that this is a friendly forum not a "LETS START A WAR, AND MAKE SOMEONES DAY START OFF BAD" forum

NOW GIVE POOR CHEESE SPECIALIST A HUG EVERYONE!
before you make her cry  :*
I'm truely sorry about that, I wasn't mad at you, I was just getting worked up about it. I realy didn't mean it to come off that way (well, maybe just a little). It's just that every time we have an argument like this, someone always says that it is humane breeding these things bacause cat's and dog's have been "crossing" for a long time.
again I'm sorry. :)

I understand that him saying parrot with flowerhorn sauce was down right.....Well, DUMB!!!

Well, you have to admit, maybe we could actualy make fish food out of them. we make fish food out of shrimp and krill, so why not blood parrots? It would help keep the population down, while nourishing other fish. besides, it looks like parrot's have a lot of meat on their bones.
Just my opinion though ;)

I personaly like the Natural parrot fish (Hoplarchus psittacus) a lot better than blood parrots, and I think people should know about the natual kind before they buy the man made kind. :)

Hybrids yes, think of them as you will.

Dyed or injected fish is wrong.

All blood parrots are hybrids or bread from hybrids.

These days’ blood parrots can bread

BUT NOT ALL OF THESE FISH ARE DYED or INJECTED. They have a natural colour as per the pics in these threads, ranges from a bright orange / yellow.

When the dyed parrot's LOSE their colour they return to the shades of orange I mentioned above.

I presume all the parrot haters would also throw out all goldfish for the same reasons?

The argument about breads of dogs compared to parrots is misleading. I won’t go further I can’t be bothered to fight on this one.

Never buy a dyed fish deliberately or shop somewhere that sells them.

If you have a parrot look after it whatever the colour.

If you have a happy non dyed parrot as I do (6 years old) don’t worry and enjoy him.

They are here to stay, in 20 years time Parrot breeders will be slating the newest hybrid to the market anyway!

i'm serious! i worked there for a little while and it sounded just like that! :S
in fact most of that was actually being quoted!

Well...........

I found a little LFS that has some NON-dyed Blood Parrots, they are gray in color. I am going to go check them out tonight with my hubby. It's funny because the only fish that he likes out of all the ones we have is Polly our BP. I may buy one, I may not, I'll just have to see.

Wish me luck........ :D

And don't be too mad (the ones who are against) :*) I've been looking for NON-dyed BPs for a while now and am anxious to go and look at them.

I think you should try a cichlid tank silver
Nobody is mad if you have cichlids, and they have the same personality as parrots, even a little more. Plus, they are a lot more colorful (and in my opinion better "shaped) than BP's (dyed and undyed). I think you should try them out before you consider supporting organizations like those that produce blood parrots and other dyed fish. :)

CMC, I just read it......thanks!

Although, I do find some of her information to be DEAD wrong like:

They also have spinal and swim bladder deformities, which affects their swimming abilities.
This sort of implies that all Blood Parrots have these deformities which is very FALSE. I've never heard of one having them personally and have only seen one that was sick vs. the HUNDREDS of other kinds of fish I've seen and heard of dying from similar problems. :dunno: Just my experience and Opinion.

Again:

They should not be kept with aggressive fish, as they are not well equipped to compete for food or turf in the aquarium.

 Sorry, but this is just plain funny. All I can say is this is very wrong too. They compete for food like there's no tomorrow. Now, against a Jack Demsey or Firemouth........that's another story, but DUH!!!! And they compete for turf very well too. They have rank in a communtiy aquarium like others.

Again, just my experience and knowledge!!

TCA.......I would like to have a cichlid tank.......true ciclids of course ;) , but that is a little further into the future I think. As far as supporting them......I know you see it differently, but I really like BPs. I think if you were to actually get one - okay wrong example that would never happen - lets say you were to watch over one for a while for a friend - and before you say it, a friend that you WOULDN'T say no to  - I think you'd fall in love too   :*)

Here is a website I found about blood parrots. So I'm assuming that they are born the natural color of gray? There's a discussion forum link at the bottom of the article. I think I'll check it out...
That was a fantastic article. Well informed on the subject, with a strong journalistic objectivty. Clearly the person who wrote that truly cares for their fish. Thanks.
