Appalling...

But a hybrid is not natural, right? So, you don't think it has a right to be alive.

Sure, that sounds good. Man chose to create it, why should man not choose to destroy it?

I didn't say I'm going on a mission to destroy these things, I"m saying if I happened upon one I would kill it. Lets say I bought a tank from a friend and it came with some cichlids including a blood parrot. I would destroy the blood parrot and keep or find homes for the rest.
Why not find a home for the parrot? It deserves a home with someone that would take care of just as much as anything else.

It seems to me you don't like keeping fish, you just like the power.

Yes, thecichlidaddict... These fish should never have existed and the sooner there are no more of them, the better. The best way to do that is for there to be no economic incentive for them to be bred. I will never shop at an LFS that sells them or other painted or mutant strains, even if that is the only LFS available to me.

I however, would not actively kill one, as it isn't the fishes fault that it was born. If given one, I would attempt to find it a home (that agreed never to breed it) and until I found one, I would provide it with the same care I do all my fish.

Can't we all just get along? ;)

IMO,
i don't see anything wrong with hybrids,
do you understand that most types of dogs/ cats and ALOT of horses/rabbits/guinea pigs (etc) would not exist without crossing 2 different kinds? :dunno:
i DO see what you are all saying about the dying methods
i do to find this both disgusting and dangerous
but i do not see blood parrot cichlids as an "abomination" or someone "trying to play god"
not to start a war
just stating my opinion ;)
WRONG!
A hybrid among fish is created by mixing two completely different species, while a horse or cat or dog is from the same species. A hybrid among fish is about as natural as a lion and a domestic cat breeding, the fish do not want to do it, they are forced too by having hormones injected into the water that makes their systems go haywire.
That is where a lot of this misconception comes from, it is not like two different dogs breeding together, because there is only one species of dog, they just have different characteristics. A Mutt bred from a corgi and a Pomeranian, for example, is about as much of a hybrid from a fat person with blond hair and a skinny person with red hair having a baby.
They are two completely different things, and it is a disgusting and horrible thing, creating these mutant fish (which, by definition is exactly what they are)
EDIT:
I forgot this part
fact: most dog types come from wolves, foxes and other wild dogs
they are hybrids of hybrids of hybrids........

Yes, but they are domesticated/inbred into what they are today. just like neon tetras and zebra Danio's are mere shadows of what they look like (and how their immunity system is built up) in the wild because they have been so widely distributed and inbred.
wow,
a little rude are we?
am i not aloud to make a mistake?
that is why i said IMO (in my opinion)
if i was wrong about some of my facts, this does not mean that my "opinion is faulty"
i would never think of them as an "abomination"
i very much agree with cheese specialist ;) in everything that she has said
IMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
`except for the eating of cows :*)
sorry girly

i think that a couple of you are out of line with how you have said things!
for starters,
"WRONG!"
could have been "actually...."
you don't have to be sensored but PLEASE!
for darn sake be CIVIL!
and i don't much care for how two "unnamed" people have talked to poor cheese specialist! :/

i am not being mean i am just hoping that people open their eyes and read BEFORE they submit
say whatever your little heart desires but keep in mind that this is a friendly forum not a "LETS START A WAR, AND MAKE SOMEONES DAY START OFF BAD" forum

NOW GIVE POOR CHEESE SPECIALIST A HUG EVERYONE!
before you make her cry  :*

never mind about the "two" culperates ;)
i re-read everything and only one was rude
sorry to the other you have the right to your own opinion :D
but my comments towards mr. "WRONG!" still stand

I didn't realize the Parrot Cichlids were dyed fish until a couple of days ago. All of my lfs always had the orange ones and I always thought they were the strangest looking fish: kind of cute but strange looking. I just assumed they were all naturally orange but the other day one of my lfs had them in orange, green, purple and yellow. I suddenly got real sad and angry because I knew then that they are dyed fish  . The dyeing process sounds terrible. There was another tank that had about 9 large ones in it (all about 4" long) and there was a sign on the tank that read "all sold". I hope that person has a large tank to put them in :( .

Crikey...... ;) (sorry, too much Croc. Hunter  ) Oh, and I love that word:

CRIKEY!! But only when said like.........CWROIKEY....like him   .

Okay,

I agree with both sides. I think you are both to the extreme though!

Cheese Specialist......I'm a vegetarian, going on 14 years now. No meat tat'all!! No fish, bird, cow, pig......etc.

I understand that him saying parrot with flowerhorn sauce was down right.....Well, DUMB!!! And all the other stupid crud :S Come on, he was just trying to piss you off and you fell for it. Be the bigger girl and run right out and buy one.......that'll piss HIM off and plus you'll have a BEAUTIFUL fish to boot!!!!

Sorry,
Feeling funny tonight!!

I agree with Cheese Specialist because the fish didn't choose to be like that and they have a right to live like everything else IMO. They don't deserve to be treated like that. People can be so cruel to poor fishies :-( I'm a vegetarian also. No meat for me

going back the hating the manmade monstrocitys (no offence or anything) your hating the wrong thing why are you hating the fish when you should be hating the people who did it?? why do you hate a president if the people are bad?? why do you kill a whole flock of sheep when only one has a disease

i dont know if all those mean the same thing but it wasnt the fishes fault they were born into a place where they were mutated... my point is that even though their mutated their still living things that eat breathe (err started out to be) yeah ya kno what i mean... dont kill the nation if only one person kills a person...

okay enough of that im sure you meant you hated the people who did it just in other wording

Well, the reason you kill the flock is so the disease doesnt spread from your farm to the next. :p Take that as you will, ;) .

Dyeing fish is a very bad practice and it should be outlawed.

I see no problem with crossing fish that will breed on their own- but to infuse the water with hormones to get them to breed out of species- there is a reason they arent breeding in the wild- we may not always see it at first- but eventually we will.

BTW- I don't think Foxes can breed with wolves/dogs. ( I'm just nit picking here, lol.)

TAKE THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the only thing i miss is watching my beloved Queen of the South play every weekend!!
Stealing eh, you sure it's not another word beginning with 's' and ending in 'ing' that you are thinking of???!!!!

Queen of the South? I am a 'Gers fan myself. :*)
'gers fan, bet you had a good weekend then!!!!

on the original topic, look at what has happened to the "flowerhorn cichlid".
another hybrid, that is taking over the waterways of the countries where they are bred. people are releasing them because the markings on the fish aren't "right".

i never said i hate the fish, i hate the people who create them to make a fast buck without thinking of the consequences.

It's true.............it was a horrible thing for these "people" to start doing.

But it is done, just like cigarettes are legal.........it's done!!!! Nothing we'll ever be able to do about it, really! There are a few dreamers that think if you try REALLY HARD that you can make things happen. It's not true. It's simply not true. That may sound pesimistic and I'd never say that to my kids, but as adults I think all we can do is voice our opinions, make websites or newsletters to educate people and perhaps protest, but it comes down to.......It doesn't really matter it just makes us feel good! A selfish good deed if you will.

That said,
The Blood Parrot will, now, always be here. And if they weren't, I wouldn't have my Polly and he wouldn't make me smile like he does. That may seem selfish, but he is enjoying his life more than many "natural" "god-made" fish out there in peoples' aquariums. I believe him to be TRULY happy as am I to have HIM!

Oooooh, this topic has really taken off!

Nice to see some support for the Cheese Specialist and those poor fish. I think petitericeball has got it right. People (thecichlidaddict) is hating the wrong thing/party.

See that's fine. You don't like them, fair enough. But you would find it a home and care for it until you do which is exactly as it should be. I would never see a fish die if I could help it, even if it were a fish I did not like or want to own.

And yes, we can ;)
