Anna, you said that my theory on Ich and temperature may not be true in all cases. That is in fact the case as the link below points out on page 2, on the right hand paragraph. This document is aimed at the people most interested in the disease, fish farmers. It is, I think, also required reading for anyone treating the disease with any type of medication.
BTW, anyone with catfish, take the bit about salt with a pinch of.. em... ehh..no I wont!! Just be very careful!

Ich and its treatments

Couldn't read the reply (has anyone got a pdf reader for Windows 2000? ) but I am interested to hear that there are heat-tolerant forms of ich. Also slightly worried because the ich is obviously evolving or something.

Still, this just confirms my belief that prevention is better than cure.

Personally, I will continue to treat my ich outbreak with a combination of heat and ich treatment (plus salt in my livebearer tank) and try to keep my water as good as possible. My one and only ichy fish in that tank now looks a little dropsy - I don't think it was well when I got it. I need to use the ich treatment for another couple of days, get it out of the water with some carbon and then treat for another week with Melafix.

Anna, it says there was a case of Ich which survived 33C in Florida...
