thanks al - do you think they behave differently in these numbers (have seen you have a breeding setup too)? and what are you using as dithers? would be great to see pics of the tank?
cheers
nick

yes they do behave diff, I had 2 males with 2 males to start 1 of the males used to hide all day as he was bullied by the dom one. Then went to 1 male 2 females, once they had fry the females fought to the death and one passed away despite no line of sight very heavy planting and more then double the amount of caves to hide in.

Ill go take some pics now give me a while, just 15 neons as dither fish this was the trigger that started them breeding :good:

Here you go not the best pics but gives you an idea

Thanks mate. Really appreciate you doing that! I like the use of neons as dithers - know they're pretty common but always look good in numbers - do they hang out mid/bottom or mid/top? With all those apistos at the bottom I would want something to take up the rest of the water column.

I'm pretty torn now between doing lots of Apistos or a group of Bolivian Rams...

+1 : I think this is my preference so far. As wills suggested though am going to send an email to Alf and see if he has had experience of setting up something similar.

I'm thinking very densely planted lots of wood and then a big shoal of neons / cardinals / embers as dithers and to add a big hit of colour.

Lindsay and Craig - have you got a pic of your male Alacrina?

Ah excellent news about emailing Alf - I am sure he will help out, I really want to see it happen but just a bit warry to say go for it as it could really back fire but that said Als tank looks brilliant and those fish look great :) Make sure you mention the original sources of that info to Alf in the email incase he has not read it.

L&C - that male is stunning :D

Sent and only just read your post, but included the sources etc so he knows what I'm going on about!!
And don't worry - if you're wary to say go for it, then I'm equally as wary to commit...

L&C thanks for the picture. Wills is right great looking fish. Can't quite make it out from the picture, but is his entire bottom half blue?

I have another pic of him but he isnt showing much colour, i think hes had enough of showing off considering he got 2 lots of kids now :)

They morph colours at night he goes a pale yellow almost white, when the light comes on he goes on he starts to turn a darker yellow and his bottom half does start to turn blue and when he starts to show off of threat then hes top half yello bottom half blue and dark stripes down his body :)

you can just picture the light stripes down his body in the first pic, he is an amazing character

That tank is amazing BigbruiserAl!, are they adults or juvis as they look small? :good:
