Api Test Kit

Thats the mini master kit, not the 'master' kit but it does all the important tests, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph and high range ph. Its the one that i got and its pretty good. Hope thats helped. Its a good price too as i ended up paying £19.00 for mine from Pets At Home. GRJ :good:

Yes, just a matter of taking water sample, putting drops in and waiting 5 mins for result for ammonia and nitrite and instant result for ph. Nitrate is bit fiddly as you have to get it spot on, add 10 drops from bottle 1, shake, shake bottle 2 for 30 secs then add 10 drops from bottle 2, shake test tube for 1 minute then wait for five minutes for result. It sounds a pain but its really easy once you have done it a few times. I am doing it twice a day as i am doing 2 water changes a day (cycling 'fish in'). But go for it, better than test strips and more accurate.GRG :good:

Do i need to do any water changes during fishless cycling?

I'm only in week one :)

I am not sure about fishless cycling as i am doing mine with fish in as i didnt know about fishless cycling before i started, thats the reason i am having to do lots of water changes, to make it better for the fish. My cycle has started now and i have ammonia readings of 1.0, so i am doing 2 20% water changes a day so the fish dont get ill. I wouldnt have thought you would need to do any water changes when doing a fishless cycle untill your tank has cycled and you would maybe do it before you add your fish. Its the filter where the bulk of the bacteria will be not the water. I would see what anyone else has to say though as i am no expert. GRJ :good:

i'm no expert, but if you do a fish cycle i think you shouldn't do too many water changes as you could take out most of what the bacteria need to feed on to breed and multiply causing the cycle to last for ages. then people can lose patience and stock their tank when it's not ready and have problems. ignore this if you are aware of it and still want to carry on, brilliant!
