So we have a do you want to rant about something topic, and I figured why not have a "I just need to Gloat" topic. So here goes with the first gloat

The other day I finally got a free fish tank that somebody from work wanted rid of. The size is 80.7cmL x 56cmD (to water height) x 44cmW, it dwarfs most of my other tanks in height.

The weather here has finally settled down enough to do the repairs to the tank, and hopefully next weekend I will be able to set it all up :yahoo: . Provided hubby welds a new stand for it, because I think my existing stand will groan under the weight of this one.

So what do everyone else have to gloat about?

My local pet shop, can't call it a fish shop as they have little knowledge of fish, & only stock goldies & a few guppies/platys etc, have some lovely pieces of mopani wood they're selling at £3 each no matter what size, even the huge pieces I've seen for £15/20 in other shops.
Needless to say I've bought a few

White dog on the left thinks "you're not putting me in that"!

  Funnily enough, hubby had just mentioned we could fit both dogs in it....beats me why but we could  .

Do you care to share the name of this shop?

I don't think I should.
I should buy it all & sell it on at a profit lol

Nice one Baccus, best of luck with the new tank. I know its early, any idea on stocking?

Cazgar, buy some and I'll Paypal you the money for it and postage costs. Of course a few pound for yourself too.

Nice looking dogs by the way too.

Stocking wise it will pretty much just be a holding/ grow out tank of fish we are selling mostly guppies and bristle noses, cherry shrimp and the odd cory. Once it's all ready to go and set up I'll post pics, because even though the fish are for sale I still believe they deserve an interesting environment so they will have sand/ gravel substrate, plants, rocks and timber. I find it best to have one tank dedicated to sale fish that way people aren't wantng fish out of my other tanks I can tell them only these fish in here are for sale.

I got a second-hand 10 gallon tank today for $15 with tank, stand, filter, heater, air pump, light, food, net, thermometer, and a few extras.

That's a good bargin ! . I found a person selling a setup marine tank (only small) with stand, hood, light and other marine stuff for $100 ono, I hope it wasn't a typo as my sister would love it

Have you checked if it holds water? I've noticed that many times when a tank has been emptied, carried to a new place and filled again, it may start to leak. The silicones should be changes once in 10 years anyways, and sooner if they look bad. It's not that difficult to do yourself, it's just better to do when the tank is in that stage rather than panicking when it starts to leak when ready... :D

Fill it up with normal water for 2-3 days to see if it leaks, if it doesn't, it's usually good to go. :)

It isn't leaking, he had it setup when I got there and I've had no leakage in the 15 hours I've had it. Plus can't really wait because it came with fish too. It should hold up. I'm buying a new light for it not the bracket though just the light. Do they make either long or fluorescent tubular lights? The one he has is obviously the 3-4 years old

I'm guessing gloating generally means boasting/showing off something? In that case, I'm going to be one of the London 2012 Olympic torchbearers! :D

Nice find! I got 2 nice tanks off ebay recently for £2.04. One of them I don't think had ever really been used, no scratches, no algae, nothing. When I collected it, me and the bloke got talking about what we used our tanks for. He said he had a lot of snails and started listing all the breeds he owned. I noticed there were no pink ramshorns in that list so I sold him £10 worth and made a profit on the tanks
