Anyone want these shrimp before I throw them away..
One is brown and about 1.5" long and one is jet black and about 2cms long. Ideal for someone with a pico who does not want fish in there. Shame to condem them to death :(

get some pictures and il do soms reasearch and consider a small tank for it :D if you still have thems .... gives me something to researh thoug, + im turning into a tank collector....

Ok.. I would say the brown is just a common mantis.. just plain brown.
Whereas the black one looks like this.. Black version
How do you want me to go about keeping these alive? Would a fry net be any good or would they just smash their way through it?
I dont want to be setting up another tank just for them.

OK I want the black one if that's alright :good:

keeping them alive, I don't know lol - they *might* smash through a net or get tangled and die  by common brown do you mean peacock?

thanks

Sorry about the bum end..lol hes burried his head and seems happy in there :)
Maybe you can better ids yourself as I know nothing about mantis shrimp other than I dont want them in my tank.
They came out while I was doing a RO wash of the new rock had the shock of my life I can tell you :( along with aload of other strange worm type things That I need an ID on.

mantis shrimps ive seen at places are kept in a plastic jar with holes in them, then floated in a tank

im not sure about the mantis all i no is im after a small one but i need to do alot of research on them before!!!

try and get 2 plastic jars! with small holes in for air flow that should contain them, its what they use at tmc and they dont seem to break out there, its also what stores usually do, though i have heard of one mantis a huge peacock smashing out of one jar hence why i suggested to plastic jars, it only smashed out cus a kid was tapping on a glass and it obviously didnt like it.

Take the pics..lol
I dont have any suitable plastic containers so what other options do I have.
I'm at a loss for something that is mantis proof that can go in the tank and allow water flow etc :(

yeh thats the problem with glass they wont be able to smash through jamjars or things but to get water flow in will be a nightmare you could only do it really through the lid....

il await demonmagnus id results so i can research them since i wud love either one if i can set something up!

Try find an empty plastic tub, stab it a few times and selotape it to the side of your tank.
Don't worry too much about circulation, mantis' are bull dogs of the shrimp world.

If you don't wanna kill your tub, change the water every few hours :good:
