I guess it was last week. I just read about it. A rep from Tetra had a kit, 5gal tank. They dumped water in it, then put a few rocks in, and then dumped a bowlfull of fish. 2 clowns, 1 hippo tang, 2 seahorses and a starfish. They called fish the idiot-proof pet. Anybody else see this. It is appalling. Here is a link to a reef site that hosts the video. CBS Early Show clip I don't think i will be purchasing Tetra products until they fix this, or give an apology.

You can read more at www.reefnut.com in their forums.

I think for the most part the lady gave some good information like the water conditioner and how important it is and not to overfeed or overcrowd and she actually mentioned the 1 in. per 1 gallon rule which shocked the H3LL out of me!!!! But I think she DEFINITLEY should have mentioned the MOST IMPORTANT CYCLING process. That is the only thing I think she was really missing. And she put a few too many fish in that example tank as well:

2 clowns
1 hippo
1 star fish
2 sea horses.....

That's about 15 INCHES OF FISH..........what a dumb braud!!! How many people do you think are now going to go out and buy that Tetra Kit and 2 clowns, 1 hippo, 1 star fish and 2 sea horses and think to themselves *this is perfectly okay because the lady on TV did it* That was a BIG mistake on her part :( :grr:

I agree and those fish would never last long in a 5 gal tank. 50 bucks for the kit......the fish ar eworth way more than the kit

I've also read that you shouldn't really put sea horses in with other fish in a tank as they will starve to death due to being picky eaters. Not sure whether that's true of not.... but as my LFS wants £175 for a sea horse I wouldn't want to risk it.

What a stupid bit*h how can ya say its an inch of fish to a gal when she is puttin 15inches or fish in a 5gal foolish person.

From Tetra's home page: "Be A Responsible Fishkeeper!" - might I suggest that they take their own advice.....

Also 1" to 1 gallon is a freshwater rule - for saltwater it is more like 1" to 2 gallons.

I did like the comment 'artifical plants are a little bit earier to take care of than live plants'

did you hear the woman say what are biggest mistakes people make with fish the biggest mistake is they listened to that dumb broad tenner bet the fish were dead by the end of the day!

 1 inch of fish to 1 gal of water she needs to take her own advise
stupiid moo!!

edit: can't spell

And seahorses CANNOT be kept with clowns and a hippo tang. They will never get any food and have such different requirments. Especially in a 5gal tank. I have kept a saltwater tank and it definately is not easy. I think the "rule" is more like 1" fish for 5 gallons, but again its not actually a rule, as you can't really keep a 8" lion fish with a 2" damsel.

They are making it look too easy. I think there's gonna be a lot of dead or unhappy fishies :(

Now i was looking into a marine tank. I was told by the lfs its gonna cost between 1500 - 2000 pounds for a decent setup. And marines need super water flow etc. But according to this woman i could have it all for next to nothing!!

And he also told me i would need a minimum of 3 ft tank to get the water stable. Who do i believe? If the womans right im gonna have a marine tank next week!!!

Depends what your gonna put in it. You can have a 10 gal nano reef aquarium. But if you want fish you really need larger tanks.
