Eheim Jager Heaters: http://www.petsolutions.com/C/Aquarium-Heaters/I/Jager-Thermostatic-Heater.aspx

im considering the 250watt model for my 125gallon tank.. i usually go for 2 heaters, specially on bigger tanks but the stats say it can hold down up to a 159gallon tank so would 1 suffice? and how solid are these heaters? do they last long? will they auto shut off if they break so it doesnt shock the tank?

i havent really seen these heaters before nor have i heard much about em so any help/review/heads up is much appreciated. thank you

More than anything else, heater requirements depend upon what temp you are trying to maintain the water and the ambient temp of the room the tank is in, the bigger the difference the more watts of heater it is advisable to have.

I have one of these they are not bad as heaters go, they have very strong glass so unlikely to break unless really hit hard! I have never broken one so can't tell you if they have auto shut off when they do but they do have auto shut off if removed from water which is a good feature, calibration is a bit tricky on these and the dial never reads the correct temp in the tank that is my only problem with them. I just like a good simple heater that is difficult to break and that can be removed from the water without any problems and the heater that ticks all those boxes for me is the black polymer Newatt heaters I have two, an old one and the newer pro version they are really good so I would recommend them over the Jager plus they are virtually unbreakable.

I have one, it works great but I find it tricky to adjust the temperature and find I depend on what my thermometer says while adjusting rather than the number I am setting it to.

I have two interpet heaters, they are more or less the same but easier to adjust the temperature.

thanks for the input folks, helped me off the fence that ive been on for awhile. i think i might just stick with the Marineland heaters.

I have one since yesterday, I have got it spot on as for the calibration, I use it to set my temp from ambiant 20 to a nice 25.
Can't speak about reliability but the man at the shop told me he really loved them.

I have not used these Eheim heaters before, cannot really comment on those.

IMO, most heaters are pretty much the same, you get what you pay for really.

Personally I use the Fluval E heater 300w, I kinda like it as it has an easy to read LCD display that show temp readings and also display glows green when at ambient temp, blue when too cold and red when too hot. SO easy to see at a glance what temp is. Also is easy to adjust temp, pretty accurate as well.
