Any Vets On The Forum?

I'm not flaming you Simon, I am just concerned that you haven't even shown a photograph to aide this bizarre online request for a diagnosis. There are so many things I could/would use online forums for, but if it concerns the serious health issues of any living breathing loved one, I wouldn't. Not without a photograph at least. A true professional would need to see it, so if there's a vet on the forum a photo could have helped a bit and anyone inexperienced could be giving you false hope or instilling the false fear of god into you!
Your vet has told you on the phone to clean it and you are taking him anyway, so why really the need to mention the expensive emergency costs? My mum is a trained vetinary assistant and I am very aware of people not wanting to 'splash their cash' which is unforseeable but almost always necessary at some point in a pet's life. You could have put the whole thing very differently - my dog's eye, photo here, what does anyone think, why mention the cost>that was the bit that got me feeling a bit irate. Just cos he's not in pain it doesn't mean something untoward isn't going on. I hope you get it sorted and treated and your pooch is back to normal soon.

These days, spending money is often a difficult decision to make. A trip to the vet is never cheap. Why take a pet there if it's nothing serious? I don't see anything wrong with asking questions here to determine what could be involved with his dog's eye problem, before making the decision to go.

A photo would have been helpful though.

I hope your dog eye improves soon, simonas.

He had already spoken to his vet who is a trained professional, if the vet was concerned he would have asked to see the dog asap. Hope it all clears up soon. :)

Exactly so it was a badly worded post that implied that the money was the issue, and no inchworm spending money on my animal's health is never a difficult decision to make - I don't think Simonas even really thought about what he was asking - the question wasn't should I spend the money, the question was, having spoken to my vet who doesn't seem overly concerned, would it be wrong of me to wait a day and see if how it's going. Money really doesn't seem to come into at this stage, because the vet didn't ask to see him anyway.

i rekon it could be catarax. It's not uncommon for it just to appear in one eye. My nans dog has it in both and shes is happy. The vets suggested treatment but said it would just reappear after a couple of month so there wasn't much point in putting it though surgery. I take it to the vet anyway, just to make sure its not anything too serous!

Hope all is well,

Meg

I'm a vet. Cloudy cornea or cloudy anterior chamber can be an emergency. Cloudy lens- not so much. The picture suggestion is a good one. Don't let your dog rub the eye until it is assessed. Put an elizabethan collar on if you have one. Good luck!

happy days my dog is ok, he has a poorly eye of course but no lasting damage or health issues

He has an ulcer on his eye, apparently very common especially at this time of year when they spend more time in long grasses etc so may have been scratched etc

anyway some cream to use for the week and take him back in 7 days to see how its getting on

Dry eye? the vet checked with tear strips and he is borderline for that apparently so she will check that at a later date as hes due his booster in 2 months or so

Good luck! Hopefully the ulcer heals on its own with the cream the vet gave you. Be sure to not let him scratch at it, as that can aggravate the ulcer and delay healing. I think like anything else, it becomes itchy when healing. Most should heal on their own. :good:

hardly a bizare online request for a diagnosis. I actually asked if any vets on here so I could ask a question. It wasn;t a general request for online diagnosis hence I was trying to target a real qualified vet. I would then have asked advice, its only cos the thread has gained momentum that online diagnosis has gone on and actually not by myself but from contributors to the post.... of which I am grateful for of course

I couldn't get a photo as he doesn;t open his eyes much anyway being a basset, its hard enough to get it open to wipe and anyhow I didn;t ask for a diagnosis from the start.

It only turned into that as you got involved and interpreted my post that way. are you a vet? if no why answerr the original post as I was after a vet as mentioned earlier?

anyway issue is sorted now and my dog is fine thankfully and time for me to sort out insurance...... if its ok to mention cash oh and I need to sort my own insurance out as my employer has cancelled sick pay!!!

I said my mum was a qualified vet assistant and I would have asked her boss for you THAT is why I answered

Let's end this squabbling now, before I have to close this thread. :grr:

I'm glad your dog is going to be OK, simonas.
