Another simple question

VERY simple...

How common/rare are yellow female bettas? Like, in pet stores that don't carry rare fish. Are they really hard to find normally, or are they fairly common?

My LFS had two last time I was there, I was thinking of picking them up ^^

i dont wanna say they are like a rare rare find like the holy grail or anything, but they are reasonably uncommon, if u have the space i say nab them before someone else does.

I dont know much about the rarity of bettas their colors and tail types...but I have three fish stores right next to me and i go in every time they have a new shipment...and I have seen only one yellow guy (and ive been to at least 21 new shipments...haha wow im so lame )

They aren't so much impossible to find as they are difficult to breed true. Yellow is tricky just because for a betta to be yellow means it does not carry the colour gene for red but rather a genetic mutation that changes the red to yellow (yellow bettas are also referred to as Non-Red, or NR, bettas). Since red is a dominant gene in bettas (the NR gene is recessive to the red gene) that makes them somewhat scarce, yes.

They indeed still do have yellow girls... and a lot of them, 10 or 11 They seem to have 2 pure yellows,a few yellows with a faint blue/teal color in their rays in the right light, and a few yellows with a faint red in the rays... I would assume the pure yellow would be the most worth my money? ^^

I am going to set up my 10 gallon for bettas I think, I have 2 girls in my community, and I might pick up 2 more once it's set up.

are they veils? i'd like to breed my yellow guy, but i can't find any yellow crowns in the US.

Ooo, I would take them in a second! :lub: I've never ever seen a yellow, even with wash, at any LFS I've been to. Definitely one of my favorite colors. Is she a VT?

There are VT I'm almost posotive (not that easy to tell with girls all the time ) Absolutly NO stores within 10 miles of me seem to have anything but veils But, they are beautiful none the less! They are all full grown, which kind of saddens me. I like me wittle bettas ^^ I did not pick one up, no room right NOW... And I have nowhere to put my 10 gallon ;__; I might get one and put her on her own or in my community (if she'll cooperate with that plan). She;s in a large female betta tank, so she SHOULD be ok with others...
