As horrific as this seems to us, unfortuantely thats just the culture over there. These fish arent pets to them, they're colourful ornaments and are treated accordingly

We think its horrific because we care about fish and enjoy looking after them its just the same in the UK, i could seriously see traders selling key-fob-fish here too! They do at fair grounds and make enough money. Goldfish are looked down on everywhere in the world. Its really sad

OMG when i first saw this i thought it was cruel because of the size of the bag (and the fact it isnt dark and is obviously sold to anyone!) but OMG its sealed so that the fish acutally suffocates to death!!! thats so sick, how did this F*****ED up country ever get the olympics, they should go back to making plastic bags for my shopping, that makes me sick.

somehow, this does not come as a surprise to me.

not to be racist, but i keep on hearing appalling things that happen in china, such as kidnapping children in the confusion caused by the recent earthquake and breaking their legs. they would then use them to line their pockets by forcing the kids to beg on the streets.

I find it a surprise the government would allow it (heck, maybe the guy will mysteriously disappear before the olympics). China wanted the world to see how nice they were to animals, so months ahead of setup they rounded up all the stray cats in the city and mass-euthanized them. If the people in charge realize this guy could embarrass them, some people's ideas for dealing with him might well come true.

Have you been following the news AT ALL since China got the Olympics? They've been killing people to make sure they don't embarrass the country, slaughtering stray pets so nobody coming to the Olympics would see them, taking fish out of public ponds and fountains so people don't see them and think they're underfed...

Also, if a family has more than one child, the government doesn't kill them - most of those cases were the parents themselves doing it to avoid the mutliple child tax.
