Another mystery of sorts....

LOL, Sorry @AbbeysDad, but you know how this forum is, start talking about guppy grass, end up in Macdonalds eating poison dart frogs :)

Yes, sorry for that AbbeysDad...
Yep, it's like a conversation that may begin talking about the weather, then a body will say 'that reminds me of...' - something totally unrelated! lol
Last week I discovered that my Ryobi electric blower no longer works. Not sure if it's the blower or the battery and the lithium ion batteries for it are like $40. I remembered I had an old Homelite 2-stroke blower in the shed that I hadn't used in years. I thought I'd see if it would run. I discovered that it wasn't getting fuel do to cracked/broken fuel line. I ordered new fuel line/filter, tore the machine apart, and fixed it. Runs great now! So for $12, I have a new (old) leaf blower. Now some poo poo having a leaf blower, but it sure beats sweeping the garage, driveway, front porch, etc....and it was key in removing a mouse nest from inside the DR trimmer head/cover!!!
...and there you go - LOL

So, for just 12 bucks a new (old) leaf blower is a good deal... 👍
But I wonder what those mice would think, now they've lost their home...? Maybe they've moved to your neighbours... 😅

Well truth be told, I set traps in the shed and have caught a few mice now! The shed is closed pretty tight so I'm confused as to how they get in there. In any case, it's likely the mouse lost more than it's home.

footnote: I really don't like killing critters - "live and let live", otherwise eat what you kill. But I don't want rodents in the house or messing with the outdoor equipment. (If unnoticed, a mouse nest packed between the head and cover on an air cooled engine will likely cause it to overheat and burn up! - so mouse and nest must go!) :)

I've got to agree with you... :good:

I'm currently busy with the backyard. Clean up stuff, mow the grass, getting rid of the weeds and sow plant seeds. I do see rats and mice from time to time. But that's not because of us. It's because two neighbours do throw out food in their backyards for birds to eat (according to them). But it also attracts all kinds of vermin. A number of residents have already complained. But these two neighbours just keep on doing it.

Or a cayote attacks you in the wooods and you have to stab it with a knife... That's another good reason to kill an animal. Otherwise no need to kill something that's not harming you. I always try deterrents in the yard before lethal forces are used...

Coyotes are just downright crazy! We have a massive, empty field beside our house. The owners live in FL and hired a company to maintain the land, mow it down once a year, keep the coyotes in check. Well the company didn’t do that. The coyotes got soooo bad around here. People were posting missing cats, missing dogs. There were no baby deer that year. The coyotes would howl and shriek and scream alll night long, nobody could get their dogs to stop barking back. Eventually a group of the neighbors planned a big hunt to reduce their numbers. They contacted the owners of the land seeking permission to hunt the coyotes, they only got a snarky letter back saying they didn’t want anybody hunting on their land. Understandable, you give someone permission once and they think they’re allowed whenever. But I’m guessing he talked to the company because les than a week later, people where out at night hunting them. It turned out that there were several dens on the land, with access to water and loads of prey because there’s nothing over there. So they were just multiplying like crazy.

Some people would say it is cruel, to hunt the coyotes. But there are so many coyotes because humans hunted out their natural predators. They hunted the bears and the wolves and the mountain lions, so now there’s nothing keeping them in check but humans. We’ve already upset the balance. If people let the wild animals be, there wouldn’t be so many coyotes. But people didn’t, and now they pose a safety risk.

Yup. I also do believe sometimes we need to keep predator and prey numbers leveled out otherwise it could lead to either an extinction or an invasive species... Right now humans are the worst animal on the planet... Just sayin
