hello, my dad has a 10 gallon tank, he has a young 1 inch angel in there, when this fish is 2-3 inch it will be moved to a 50 gallon of mine, b4 you shout at me.

the problem was last night the fish decided to rest/tilt up against a piece of bogwood for 3-4 hours!
i visited my dads this afternoon with treatments up to yingyang and all my test equipment thinking there would be a ammonia spike due to 3 rummy nosed tetra's being added recently.

i tested the water and the results were.

nitrate 12.5
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
ph 7.5 usual for this area and the water.

also the fish does not seem to be swimming as much as he was my dad says.

would he be resting?

or is there something else i should do. maybe treat for a internal bacterial infection?

thanks

tps. tank inhabitants are.

2 guppys
3 rummy nosed tetras
2 albino cory's
6 platty fry (from my tank)

Hi,

I have had Angel fish for a couple of years, im no expert on them but i would say if the fish is resting on bog wood or an ornament for a couple of hours at a time then there is something not right. I had something very similar that i put down to stress on the fish, the fish was being bullied by another angel and there was not enough time to seperate it.

Is there any signs of any infection or damage to the fish at all.

Were the new tetras quar'd before being put in the tank, and is the angel eating?

He isnt actually resting on any ornaments or the bogwood but is just hiding out of the way under a natural arch made by the bogwood. he does come out to feed ok and to swim around a bit but always returns to the same spot and stays there for long periods. he is also the only angel in the tank and as far as i can see doesn,t get bullied by other fish . there are no signs of infection or damage to him at all. Prhaps he just likes it in there. my son is going to give it another 24 hours and then try him in his tank . any other advice would be gratefully received cheers.

Hi Tolak , many thx for your reply, As my son bought and set up the tank for xmas I would have to ask him if the tetra,s were quar,d and get back to you. as soon as i feed them the angel is up and out and feeding no problem. He just seems to spend an awful lot of time on his own under a little arch in the bogwood. Other than that he seems ok .any more advise would be gratefully received. Cheers

He might just be a little stressed with the new tankmates. As long as he is eating he should be fine, hiding is also a sign of internal parasites if the fish isn't eating & has whiteish stringy feces. A few taller plants for a hiding place might help him feel more secure, as well as dimming the lights if you have no live plants. Less light helps fish feel more secure, room lighting is fine for fish in a non-planted tank.

I would suspect it's just a reaction to a busy 10 gallon tank. With the guppys, tetras, & corys it's a fully stocked tank, add in some fry & a juvie angel & it's a little overstocked. The water tests look good, I would just watch for any refusal to eat with the angel.

thanks for that I feel a bit better now. u get used to them after a while and its not nice to see em struggling. as i write he,s decided to make an appearance. ive lots of live plants but he seems to be happier in the bogwood or close to it . cheers. will report on his progress
