i got a 55 gallon for my 2 adult angels.. so far the only fish that are going into this tank are my angels.. 4 cories, one danio and one pleco. i would like some large loaches (i'm thinking clowns) and i would also like GBR's could i put them with my angels? and i am clueless as to what to put in for a schoal.. i have one danio with one of my angels.. they have been together for about a year possably longer.. so what do you think i should add? more danios for sure.. what loaches are best? and which cichilds would work?

Probably shouldn't add tetras smaller than rummy-nose, even more so since your angelfish are large. I'd go with rummy-nose but if you go for some of the larger ones you should be wary that some species may nip fins, such as serpae tetras. Blue rams would work fine with the angelfish but I'd be inclined to go with a smaller loach than clowns. Something like yoyos or zebra loaches as they only grow to ~10cm.

If you're still looking at different cichlids you could replace the blue rams with bolivians or some apistos like agassizii or cacatoides. Keyhole should be ok as well.

thank you very much.. i dont know much about cichlids.. or loaches.. mainly because i never had much room to accomadate them.. i will look into bolivian rams.. also yoyos and zebra loaches.. thanks again.. i like all the feedback i can get

Add to the danio numbers, or alternatively add some rainbows - they shoaled with my danio's quite happily. Praecox look stunning and would be quite happy in that sized tank.

Clown loaches grow huge in the long run, and I've heard of them stressing out angels by their activity. I'd avoid them. I've got some botia kubotai (polka dot loaches) and they almost remind of me of keeping dogs, they're forever making me smile.

Nothing smaller than rummy noses if you're planning on keeping angels. A shoal of 8-12 corys would be a good addition too, as would some gourami.

If you think about adding GBR's you need to be willing to do absolute minimum 30% weekly water changes, and not miss one. Ideally to get their full colouration I found 20% every 3-4 days was better. Be honest with yourself, if you're not going to find the time to do that I'd consider an alternative like apistogramma cacatuoides, a.agassizi or Bolivian Rams. GBR's are beautiful but water quality is of paramount importance to their stress levels in my experience.
