Well to start with, my angel fish are acting very strange, i don't know wether if thier mating or fighting. They swim around almost 'flinching' at each other and keep jaw locking, then sometimes they like push each other back and forth but then they swim like in circles and it almost looks like a mating ritual. I have no idea whats happening so could anyone tell me what they are doing and any advice on what to do, many thanks, Flapperjack :)

It's pairing behavior, welcome to the world of angelfish breeding! :good:

The male & female will test each other to see if the other is a suitable mate. You'll see some lip locking, perhaps a bit of chasing & nipping, some nipped fins are to be expected. They will often swim together between these little challenges, eventually finding a near vertical place to spawn.

What size tank are they in, and what do you have for tankmates? Angels are cichlids, and
when spawning can get pretty aggressive towards others in the tank.

I have a Fluval 125 with
2 x kio Angel Fish,
5 x Guppys
4 x Tiger Barbs,
2 x Rummy-nose tetras,
2 x Synodontis Catfish,
2 x Kuhli Loachs
1 x Oto Catfish
1 x Common Pleco
this includes the angel fish Thankyou :)

Congratulations on the pairing.
You have a few little things i would change in the stocking though
2 x kio Angel Fish
5 x Guppys - will probably get eaten once the angels get bigger
4 x Tiger Barbs - Are very nippy and likely to nip the angels and guppies not fins
2 x Rummy-nose tetras - need to be in groups of 6+ and are likely to get eaten by the angels when bigger
2 x Synodontis Catfish - what type? Some get quite big and territorial
2 x Kuhli Loachs - need to be ing groups of 6+
1 x Oto Catfish - need to be in groups of 4+
1 x Common Pleco - can get up to 2 foot long so needs to be rehomed or put in a bigger tank.

Thanks and i will take these tips thankyou :),
is their any tips or anything that i can do to make the pairing and breeding more successful ?
Many thanks :D

It trigger them to spawn you could do a 40% cool water change with the water 4-5C lower than the tank.
I would think all the eggs will get eaten, Plecs are massive egg eaters and given the chance all the other fish would not hesitate to eat some. First time it is very likely the angels will eat the eggs themsalf but after a few attempts they get better and should care for the eggs really well but in a community tank there still likely to get eaten.

Not sure but if there well fed and the waters right it could be the next few days.

hey its ben a couple days and still nothings happened, when do you think it will if it does ?
many thanks Flapperjack128 :)

Mine have been fighting for a couple of weeks now probally going onto a month? I'm still seeing breeding tubes and they are still "testing" each other. So it might be a while before you see anything. I'm begining to think mine will never lay eggs, lol. But I'm not trying to get them to breed either, so maybe my conditions just aren't right for them to take that step. Hope yours figure it out, lol

mine have been doing it for maybe a week or two, quite frustrating when you know they might lay eggs, i hope they do swell hahaa, good luck to you 2 :)

If you wanted to induce breeding you could also drop the temperature by a degrees or two and add cold water (mimicking the rainy season).
But as stated above you may loose your Tetra and some of your other fish as the Angels will become aggressive and territorial towards any other fish.
On another note: Im still overstocked from January where i had 200 in my (angels) couples 3rd breeding attempt, i had to buy another tank and have been dong alot of water since, i was lucky to sell that tank with 100 angelfish, and the shops have taken about 60.
you may want to keep that in mind.
