Hey guys
So the other day i finally got my big tank kick off. I bought two large angel fish and id say their my personal prized fish (Im not saying theyre perfect specimins, im just saying out my fish, they're my show stoppers). I was told they were a breeding pair and have laid eggs in the past. Now im wondering, they seem to be staying put in one side of my tank, One of them keeps "kissing" my pump and the other one is stopping fish from getting anywhere near the corner of the tank! Is this usual behavour? Anything i should be looking for or doing?

Iv'e had a number of angel fish in community tanks over the past 25 years. The small ones like to school and tend to hide alot and the large ones typically become bullies. It'll take a couple days for them to settle in and carve out their territory but in my experience they will do pretty much as you describe, set aside a spot of their own and then defend it. Mine have always laid eggs on somthing vertical either a lift tube or a suction tube, I have never been able to raise the fry as I never got them out of the tank soon enough and indeed most of the times the breeding pair themselves would eat the eggs shortly after laying them. I have attributed this to the rest of the community and the attendand commotion in the tank but haven't really been interested enough to reaseach it fully.

Cheers, I wouldnt say they were bullying, no contact seems to being made! Theyve only just started doing it too! Theyve been happyly going all over the tank till this evening!

They're about to lay eggs on the filter. They will start pecking clean the surface they intend to lay eggs on, while keeping all other fish out of the area.

do alot of research on breeding these, more like the after care, i saw your pics the other day and they are great fish, would be a shame to loose the eggs, keep us turned into whats going on and add more pics....i personally cant wait, anyone who hasnt seen these pics go back thru the forum and take a look

WOW! I hope so, what a result that would be!

They're getting ready to breed by the sounds of things. My angels are never overly aggressive, and the only time they've defended a corner of a tank is when my first pair decided to breed last week. I've had them for 9 months now - and that's the first time I've seen any of my angels actively guard an area ;)

Honestly i think their GREAT!

the funny side of it is that they look like they have dived head first into a jar of apricot jam

you aint had them long if i remember rightly.....wot a start

hey how do you get your pics to upload? everytime i try i keep getting an error with image, checked that Kb was right but the damn things still wont upload.....shame i got great photo i would like to share. i have put this question elsewhere as well

I may be a newbie in the fish world but in the pc world its quite the opposite! B)

- Go to www.imageshack.us and upload your image
- Once the image has uploaded copy the "Direct link to image" URL from the uploaded image page (it should be the bottom one)
- When your repling press the "Insert Image" button and paste the freshly copied URL and click ok (you can type the code if you know it, its quicker if you do)
- Post your reply and get ready to recieve comments on your images! :D

well if you do as well with your fish as your computor advice then your gunna be an even prouder person

thankyou, will try that

Nice looking gold marbles. Once they start to spawn expect them to spawn every 7 to 14 days. Often the first spawn or two isn't very fertile, they need a little practice. Look into setting up a brine shrimp hatchery, the fry do best with live micro food. Also look into local shops & such who may be interested in them, you can't keep 200+ angels forever, unless you want to spend tall dollars on tanks & such.

If you find shops or other buyers that are interested plan on adding more tanks, you will need a minimum of 100 gallons of tank space to raise a spawn to a sellable size. Depending on where you get the tanks & other equipment expect to have them paid off after selling 2 to 4 spawns. I had a pair of silver veils pay for a good portion of my fishroom a while back, if you can find buyers you can get the fish to be self supporting, and have a little left over for whatever you want.
