Their metabolic state changes I believe... but they dont knock out of conciousness as far as I know.

Well, I don't know from a "scientific" standpoint.. but if i creep up on my fish in the middle of the night they are simply hovering in 1 spot... not moving... i think that means they are sleeping!

my fish seem to "sleep" at night.

if i turn the lights on they are all hiding and not moving much.

My fish seem to sleep (they're down at the bottom of the tank in strange positions), but they're swimming somewhat to stay in the same place, and they react when I put my fingers up against the tank.

Maybe they're just napping. . .

It's a "trance-like state". However, they pump their pec fins and dash around if I or another fish disturb them.
