Hi All,

What are the pluses and minuses of using the water tube ( http://www.aquacare.co.uk/shop/contents/media/pump-280.jpg , on the right, or, here http://www.aquacare.co.uk/maint7.htm) in Juwel Rekord 60 (Filter Compact Super, pomp 280 ) ?

With the tube -> bigger turbulence, more air(?), bigger noise(?).
without -> less oxygen(?)

maybe something else, or maybe there is no much difference at all, just a matter of taste (as they mentioned in the manual)?:)

I also have a few plants (10-15 per 60L ) so I hope there will be no lack of O2 for fish and plants. But the smaller turbulence will be definitely better for my plants.

Tnx.

Remove the water tube from a Juwel Reckord 60 and you get 0 water circulation, i tried that before and my fish ended gasping at the surface before to long, if the tank is planted and you want to minimise surface agitation to retain the co2 in the water here is a link to a mod another member here came up with that works very well IMO, I tried a good few things but this is definatly the idea that works best and its nice and simple.

Reckord 60 mod

Welcome to the forum BTW, hope that helps.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I tried to search here myself, but wonder how I missed that post.

does this mean even though there is little surface agitation there will still be enough oxygen for the fish.

Yesterday I took off the water tube, and today the situation is not so bad. My fish are still lively and do not spend all the time gasping at the surface (as it was mentioned here and here). I have to say that I have 6 labyrinth fish in my tank so for them it does not really matter, but my 2 Corys are also fine. Tomorrow I'm going to install an air pomp (and switch it on only during the night, o2 for fish and plants) and still not to use the water tube. My plants grow VERY slow and I have some suspicions that with the water tube the co2 level is too low. I also know that in my tank (Rekord 60) there is not enough light but that's another story :).

just to reiterate. that mod is for a planted tank with co2 addition. in a non planted tank this mod will reduce the oxygen and the fish wont thank you for it. (by planted i mean thriving plants with pearling - oxygen bubbles coming off the leaves) doing the mod wont increace your co2 for that you'll need to add either a diy yeast type kit or fully pressurised system, the mod keeps that co2 in the water.
