Ancistrus Or Bristlenose Plec?

Probably a really stupid question but... why do some shops sell bristlenose plecs as bristlenose plecs and some as ancistrus? Are BN plecs of the ancistrus genus? And how do I work out what species of ancistrus I have?

Should have called this bristlenose 101 (or ancistrus 101)

Bristlenose is the generic common name given to the various Ancistrus species of plecs
