I didnt expect that today... but with all her problems it would happen sometime
She was quite talented aswell

She wazzed her life away with drink and drugs, I have no sympathy.

My sympathy is however with those in Norway.

Maybe she should have gone to rehab.

I know that sounds harsh but I honestly feel no remorse when celebrities, or anyone for that matter, waste away from drugs.
I know that drugs are an addiction and the body physically starts wanting it - but there was always that first time when they could have said "no."

Good.

Whilst those in Norway my sympathy goes to I have to say I disagree with the "good" statement. Aye she may have "wazzed" her life away but being addicted to drugs would make any persons lifestyle the same.
She did try to get help, maybe she didn't want to really get clean, maybe she did, I will never know if she truly wanted to be free from mood altering substances but being as she tried she was obviously seeing there was a problem in her life.
Being a drug addict is no ones ambition in life, the same way as no one wants to get cancer. If she had died from that then she would have got all the sympathy Jade goody got.
Addiction is a disease, uncontrolable and everyone else will know your addicted before the addict themselves will.
People can change, it is possible but its extremely hard.
My, myself was in a serious state with serious drugs for a long time, it took me about 4 years of trying every once in a while of trying to clean up but everytime there was a problem I manufactured in my own head as to why I would go back to it.

Anyone, with the slightest clue about addiction wouldn't say that statement you did. I truly hope no one close to you ever goes through it as its hard.

Yes you can argue the point that they should never have touched drugs in the first place but then again, should anyone start smoking, gambling, drinking, or eating because all of those plus many many more are also addictions or ism's.

I don't mean to have a go but its something I feel very strongly about.

but there was always that first time when they could have said "no."

Of course your right about that but are you telling me that you've never done something you've regretted?

Wow, seriously? Thats such a shame... such a tragic loss for a lot of people, needless to say she has family and friends out there and im sure this is absolutely devastating for them and my heart goes out to them.

I don't have any sympathy for her either really. No one forced her to take drugs, she let fame and money go to her head as alot of people do... She had all the oppertunities in the world to get herself sorted and still ended up addicted to one or the other or both. Alot of 'drug addicts' manage too get clean, and these are just normal people with no money, no job, no life. Now they're clean and are on the right track again, but someone with millions, a public figure, a 'role model' a professional, can't clean themselves up? For what reason? Surely having all those doting fans would be a driving force to stick with the rehab?! Embarrasement alone would be enough for me. Going out on stage and not even being able to remember the words for your own song... I would have been straight down the clinic.

It is a crying shame that this has happened, and yes, no one would REALLY wish she was dead, but she has no one else to blame but herself. It is such a waste of a talent who had the potential of going on to major things, especially after 5 grammy's at once, but she did indeed 'waz' her life away.

Thoughts go out to her family at this hard time.

And yes, the norwegian tradgedy should be more important as the 90+ people killed didn't have a choice!

TBH No one should have given Amy Winehouse a recording contract while using drugs, that proves that the person signing her was only interested in money and never gave a toss about her. The second she started going downhill they should have cut her off and frozen her money and had that in her contract, that way she may have gotten clean if her heart was in the music. Yes its a shame but it was like watching Steve Irwin with all those deadly animals, I think we know in our hearts it was gonna happen one day.

I feel much much much more for the Norwegians, that kind of person deserves the death penalty, medieval style!

+1!!

Beautiful voice from such a small woman, it was like listening to a modern etta james, strange when you think of where she came from.

I doubt any of you know what real addiction feels like, as micko has said, it really seems impossible to get clean. She's been to rehab, but got back on the drugs, it isnt fair to say its her own fault, because it really isnt. So many other things come into play with drugs.

R.I.P amy, you and your music will be truly missed, i hope you finished your vocals.

Isn't the point of addiction that you have to have taken the drugs in the first place, it's not exactly forced upon them, the option was always theirs. However the people in Norway had no choice in their future because of some madman, and I realise I'm a hypocrit by giving this thread more attention than it deserves, but I thought I'd give my two cents.

I am really shocked about some of the comments above. I'm not having a go at any but the reason why I'm shocked is the ignorance that still surrounds addiction. Its not just about getting clean, that may seem like the only thing but your whole life needs to change.
One of those times I "went back out" I could have died so would I just have been another statistic?

Can I ask, what do people see when they see people, homeless, drinking on the street?
Do you think its a matter of them wanting to do it? Or do you think that its their own fault? They never started out life like that, nor did they want to end up that way, who would really?
If it we're that easy to stop do you not believe they would stop it and live a "normal" life?
Its the same for a drug user too, do you think they want to use themselves as a pin cushion? Feeling so low that hoping this hit might make you over dose so you can get out of the life your in?

I didn't like her music, liked her voice though.

True Ace, I may not know what it feels like to have an addiction, and I'm not prepared to find out either, taking drugs is a choice.
