Hi,

I just visited Amwell Aquatics branch in Soham. The shop impressed me so much I thought I'd recommend it. I spent an hour or more there and spent way over my store credit, much to the annoyance of the people I was with.

They had several Snakehead species in, three Arowana species and hundreds of species of Catfish and L-Number Plecs. To list just a few - Hemisorubim platyrhynchos (CFC, another one in England), African Pike Characins, Flagtail Prochilodus, Zebra Plecs.......The staff also highly impressed me, each one of the five was very knowledgeable, they asked every customer I saw served their tank specifics before considering to sell fish to them. Once they knew that I knew a little about fish they were very talkative and took me into the quaratine/hospital tank section of about 40 tanks were they also had some nice fish waiting to go out and some larger fish species looking for specail housing. I really recommend you pay it a visit especailly if you are intersted in the rarer or larger fish species, they also have an ordering scheme and can get alot of fish in for you, although for some rarer species it can take a couple of months. There is also life time membership which gets you 10% discount. :)

So did you buy the Hemisorubim then? Sounds like i need to take a trip up Cambridge way some time soon for a look around.

Yes, Amwell is a pretty good lfs. Last time I went they had several mbus and loads of gorgeous (large!) L-numbers. Very knowledgeable staff certainly.

No, I left it there, it was £65 and to big for me, they also had a nice Platystomatichthys sturio in. I got a Chrysichthys ornatus, six different L-Numbers, some more Microglanis iheringi as well as some others. Only downside was that I spotted an RTCxTSN hybrid, but apparently it was one brought into them.

LadyMinion - They had several Puffer species in, one large Mbu about 12". :)

I've been to Amwell Aquatics near Epping, is it part of the same group? I'm impressed by their stock, in fact it was the cheapest place I found for aquariums and they sell everything you could ever need.

Not so impressed by their fish though. They're very healthy, but they don't seem to stock much. But then I'm a bit spoiled living close to Swallow Aquatics in Colchester. Anyone ever been there?

Yup, same company. :)

I go to Swallow Aquatics at least once a week for river shrimp and jumbo bloodworm for my puffers. The staff there are really nice and helpful and their tanks are always in pristine condition. Good selection of L-Numbers too, although it would be nice to see some more puffers.

I think I may have to take another trip over there then. :D Do you remember what species they had?

Tetraodon miurus (Congo Puffer), Tetraodon mbu and a few more smaller species which I didn't look at to much. Must admit though, the Congo Puffer does interest me for someone who thought he'd never buy a puffer. :)

OMG - I've been after a congo for sooooo long!!! Do you remember how much he was at all?

It was a very nice fish, hard to see in the tank as it was half covered in sand at the back. I'm not sure but I have a vague idea it was £19.95, could well be wrong though but I don't think he was over priced. You could ring to check. :)

Thanks Ryan! I've just phoned them and reserved the little guy. Ooohh I'm so excited!!! :hyper:

Thats great, he looked in good condition hiding in the sand so best of luck with him. Keep us posted on his arrival. :)

Will do - should be getting him tomorrow. Would have gone today, but I only woke up at 3pm after my night shift so cutting it fine. :D

Looking forward to seeing what else they have too. I have a feeling it won't be just the puffer I'll be coming home with.

Er Whats an L-Number?? :*)

Couldn't find any pics on Google

Are they as bad for you as E-Numbers??
