Ammonia

i was wondering if when the ph is high if the ammonia is high. i don't have any aquarium test supplies so we used pool test supplies and that doesn't  test for ammonia but the ph is pretty high, it's somewhere over 8. please help! thanks!

Well actually they have a lot to do with each other....

The amount of NH3  vs NH4+ is highly dependent on your pH.

When the pH is low there will be more NH4+ and when the pH is high there will be more NH3 present.

Not strictly true, higher pH means a higher toxicity of ammonia, but high pH will not make ammonia appear out of nowhere.

NH3 is ammonia and NH4 is ammonium.
