new to hobby..........have 10 various tetras.....made common mistake of overfeeding in the beginning.........(lost2)......all has been ok for about 2 weeks now.......originally ammo was 2.0.....added ammo rid pack to aquaclear filter and some extra zeolite chips.........ammo dropped to 1.0..........i have done various 5 gal water changes......(30 gallon tank)....but ammo is still holding at 1.0........am i just being impatient and not waiting long enuf for good bacteria to take over or do i keep doing water changes to get ammo to zero??????

Keep doing water changes and cross your fingers.. you will probably lose more fish due to not cycling the tank before adding that may fish.. It will take a few more weeks for it to even out..

Hi hockeynut and welcome to the forum :) :hi:

Cycling a new tank takes a bit of time and patience and lots of water changes!

I would take the ammonia removing products out and just rely on water changes to control the process.

Here is an article that explains cycling:

IMHO, it's better to cycle with fish very slowly because it is easier on them.
