I's been a few years that I'm all set for the apocalypse.

Get a bunker with over 150 psi of overpressure resistance and more than 40 kW/m2, flame resistance.

They start at 20K$ so they are not out of reach at all, I mean my HVAC cost more.

Everybody should have one. imo

You ever see that guy on youtube that built his own underground bunker by himself? Colin Furze I think.

Everybody's idea of what constitutes reasonable precautions is different. I think we're going to be OK. If I'm wrong, we'll figure it out the best we can, and in the meantime try to stay optimistic and focus on the good. For a lot of people, the effects of stress and worry are a much bigger health risk than whatever it is that they're stressed and worried about.

Personally I rather not live in an environment where i am fearful that someone being or not being elected results in complete internal violent chaos. If we have reached a state which such now exist then those people responsible should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Remember the bomb shelters when they were once common were not due to internal fears but from a cold war era in which an external force might rain missiles upon us.

Anyway to say more i'm sure would broach the lines of politics though i will note that i live in an HOA and when i moved here there was a gate that was left open during the day and closed during the night but the people who live in fear determined that the gate should now be closed 24 hours - and yea i hate it and quite frankly i think i should move somewhere where people don't have to live in constant fear of their shadows.

I watch Colin all the time (sounds wrong that). His current underground garage project is a really fun watch as well. I bet his neighbors love him.

I wonder how he gets permits for this stuff. Maybe its different over there, but I don't think the town would approve a permit for me to dig up my backyard and build a bunker.

I have one... we don't call it a bunker, we call it a safe room, it's fire proof, so, we can go there for tornados, or if the house caught fire, & we couldn't get out... it's not bomb proof though, & while it has a ventilation system, it's also not radiation proof... it's 2 rooms, the back room with shelves for bottled water, & long term storage foods...

however, because we raise all our own meat, we have 4 freezers, one for each type of meat, & have a pantry, that holds a pick-up truckload of canned goods, organized on shelves, so we can easily pull a can at each meal, & monitor when it's time to restock... ( these are in the normal living area ) I've personally had to deal with preppers who died, before they needed their supplies, & seen the kids all throw it into the dumpsters, most was old, some was in forms the kids & grand kids wouldn't eat... I don't personally like stock piles like that... whatever you have, should be what you actually like to eat, and should be eaten out of every day, & resupplied as it's used... ( canned goods in a pantry, as opposed to dried 5 gallon buckets of food )...

we had one issue a couple years back now... during the big post covid toilet paper shortage... we always bought a huge case, that we pulled out of... of course when there was no toilet paper on the shelves anywhere, we had like 2 rolls left in the bottom of our huge case...

Don't stock pile for emergencies only, stock to last a good while but use it and replenish when needed. This way you won't be low on everything if something happens and you wont be relying on too old stuff.

A year in advance in canned goods is a lot of food and you should not end with old cans if everything goes well you are using and rotating them.

I agree with Magnum on the MRE stuff, they are all bad and worse, better maintaining larger provision of Flour, Rice, Pasta, Beans, Oatmeal etc.

As long as it's what you like and are actively eating it. Sardines are a good survival food, but if you hate it, 56 cans wont make you happy...

In time of emergencies. Comfort food does a lot for the moral. And nothing's better that a hot chocolate when you're wet and cold.

You are not forced to dig anything, you can install them in your basement and have one door inside your house and one outside. Still needs to cut an entrance, buts it's minor exterior intervention.
