With the American election in a few days time, I would like all of our American forum members to go shopping and buy food and water now. I have serious concerns about what is going to happen this week and it could be the start of a civil war. Whatever happens, you lot and the rest of the world need to be prepared for what might happen if a certain person becomes president of the USA for a second time.

This is not spam or me starting a political debate. I simply have grave concerns about everyone living in America right now. Please, go shopping and buy at least a couple of week's worth of food and water. If you can buy a few month's worth that is even better. If nothing bad happens you won't have to buy food for a while, but if it goes bad, at least you should have food for the next few weeks.

As long as the replies won't be political, this post is allowed.
And yes, your concern is a noble thing. Let's hope it won't be needed.

Yup. I'm very concerned as well. I won't lie.

I'm neutral in every election, so I don't have a side, but I still always keep my eye on things as political issues and stability do affect people.
All this has me concerned with something big happening.
I don't get it... I really don't. People need to calm down and realize America was built off having freedom to express their opinions and thoughts... So I don't get when people get extremely fired up with these things.
You don't have to agree with what someone says, but respect them.
Just as one person has the right to passionately express their beliefs, so does the next person.

I’m wondering if “he who will not be named “ is going to send me to a gulag or what , being one of those enemies from within that he wants to sic the National Guard on . I totally agree with @gwand , the guy is a clown .

I suppose before this gets political ( which it undoubtedly will )
… we keep a year’s supply of basics… it’s just how we live on the farm… with as JIT as the food sources are, and the way the average person lives today… a food shortage could happen for any number of reasons

That is something that I have been predicting for the last couple years . Famine . Not just a shortage but outright biblical famine . I don’t want to be right and I hope it doesn’t happen but all the signs are there . Less and less farmland under cultivation and the centralized food distribution network being way too susceptible to an increasingly expensive transportation network . Want to get really spooked ? Read labels and you will see that more and more of American food is coming from Mexico . Most Kellog’s cereals come from there and many other things . The goofy politicians in this country demonize and vilify China and Mexico but they buy everything from them to exploit the cheap labor . Yes , “they” buy everything from them . The politicians ARE the corporate honchos and businessmen . Money runs this plutocratic consumer capitalist society that is America and our feeble politicians are our worst enemies .

We are the same in Australia with the supermarkets selling more food that comes from Africa, China, India and various other countries that don't have good quality control or much control over what might be used on or in the crops. Having said that, they have found glyphosate (roundup herbicide) on grains from here and in bread from other countries. Our gluten free Kellogg's cornflakes come from Europe while normal cornflakes come from somewhere else.

Anyway, keep it non political (hard to do considering what is happening) and be prepared. I hope nothing bad happens after the election but be prepared just in case. Make sure you have a few month's worth of pet/ fish food too.

When I first read the reports out of China about a new respiratory virus, before it arrived here, the historian in me recognized an age old problem. It looked like the then unnamed COVID was going kill as it did, so for once in my life I stocked up.

On what? Dog food. I was prepared to go hungry, but my old dog was set for weeks and months...

Priorities my friend, priorities.

WHAT !!! You didn't stockpile any fish food ?

I have a good supply of rice , flour , oats and dried beans . Those things keep well and are cheap . I also have a small propane stove and extra propane for when the utilities shut down . You need food that all you have to do is boil . All joking aside , this artificial money system has to collapse at some point whether it be due to political unrest or whatever . Unrestrained free market capitalism with its focus on always increasing profits has an end point . We are in late stage capitalism in the big industrial countries .

Fill your car's gas tank up with fuel and maybe get a couple of jerry cans worth of fuel too.

Do water changes and gravel cleans to keep the tanks clean.

Clean your filters now just in case.

Get some batteries and back-up power to run the tanks if you lose power.

Maybe ring a relative that lives out in the country (middle of nowhere) and see if you can visit/ stay with them.

Make sure your friends and family have a bit of extra food and fuel too.

Get a few month's worth of medication if you need any and some basic first aid gear.
